This morning's UT has an article telling us that the City is now floating a plan to build a stadium near Petco Park. Why wasn't this move made earlier?
I suspect that the City fathers fear that a move by the Chargers to LA is more likely than not and are trying a last-minute effort to stave off that possibility.

I took a look at the site using Google Earth.
1) The site will need to be expanded from the drawing shown in the article. The current Petco Park footprint doesn't fit.
2) It looks like a perfect site for a stadium and could be expanded both inland and towards the freeway.
3) A downtown stadium will kill tailgating.
4) Great for the Aztecs. We should get the Qualcomm site. ;D

Escondido has put their stadium effort on hold pending what will happen downtown. One of these trail ballons had better pay off or we will be without the Chargers and trying to find a permanent place to play. SDSU development of the Qualcomm site is the best answer for SDSU, but which path is the best to attain that goal?
