Lots of good points to ponder. One thing that I will not change my mind on is that if we go to a single payer, it must not be the Federal Government. We need efficiency and not bureaucracy.

I would be okay with a nonprofit organization, or more preferably a public/private partnership with no shareholders, taking a crack at it.

I must say that I continue to be wary of the government setting prices, and that means prices in any sector of the economy. Once you say that the government should set prices in this or that field, have you not implicitly made the argument that government should set prices in any field it cares to dabble in?
In the case of health insurance, it is obvious that ObamaCare was designed very, very poorly. Surely we could have done better.

AzWm The government already sets prices, in some extent, in that insurance companies base their reimbursement rates on what Medicare pays. Didn't you read your own article?

Would be better than just government, still would still create a bureaucratic and inefficient organization.

When the government, rather than a free market, sets prices, political considerations rather than sound economics determines those prices. AzWm
