Ron Paulites all of whom appear to be a few tacos short of a full Mexican combination plate want to go on the Gold Standard.
Since we produce so much Corn and so many millions of tons of Soybeans, we should use them to value our money instead of Gold. Gold is impractical and you can not eat it.
From Corn we get the main material for a good Mexican meal. Hummmmmm, Yummmmmmy!
From Soy Beans we get one of the main materials for a good Chinese Meal. Hummmmmmmm, Yummy, too!
Gold sucks and as a commodity is subject to tremendous loss of value for no logical reason. People just all of a sudden start selling it. In 1979 to 1980 it lost half of its value. In 2007 - 2008 it lost a quarter of its value. Gold is too unstable to use as a standard. Obviously we were very wise to get the hell off of the Gold standard.
Now, with the increasing population of the world, if we were to peg the dollar to anything, it should be something that will consistently go up in price, and that is Corn and Soybeans. In that regard, the United States is the wealthiest nation on earth. And the fattest.

Maybe we should go on the "Big Mac" or "Whopper" standard as backing for our currency.

The fact remains that the dollar is worth a dollars worth of American productivity. That is all it needs to be worth. Linking it to a commodity is, quite frankly, INSANE!
