This isn't 1936 any more. Unions are no longer struggling groups of downtrodden workers fighting against giant corporations for better conditions and pay. Unions are now themselves giant corporations which, to a not insignificant degree, run the corporations who employ their members. Oh, yes. One more thing. Very interesting! The huge turnaround in Virginia is exactly what Obama says it is not. It is a repudiation of Obama's policy, plain and simple. Not Obama as a person, but Obama's ideals are being rejected!
The union angle is noteworthy as well.
New Jersey was very much a suprise to me even when the polls showed Christie with a slight lead. I thought that a Dem get out the vote effort combined with their normal bag of "dirty tricks" would save Corzine. He was deeply hated by some Democrats for his failure to follow through on the property tax issue.
