El Camino came into tonight's game at Dick Haines Stadium with just a 4-4 record, but that would have seemed to be adequate to beat the 1-7 Vista Panthers. However, Vista played its most complete game in over two years and ended up winning, 30-7.
El Camino did not make a first down until the second half. Meanwhile, the Panthers scored scored 3 TDs and three field goals to post only their second win of the year. They finish the season next Friday at Carlsbad. The Wildcats must face Oceanside the same night.

That was one heck of a game from Vista last night.
They came out in their black jerseys (black unis with red helmets - sound familiar?) and had a swagger and confidence about them that was easily seen even before the game started. They had energy and intensity from the moment they stepped into the stadium. The game was over before it began in some respects.
The Panthers didn't allow El Camino to convert a single first down in the entire first half. It was 17-0 at halftime.
This may not be a championship caliber Panthers team, but regardless of how badly the season has gone they are still fighting and improving and they refuse to give up. The players now have confidence and they're going into next week's game against Carlsbad with a legitimate chance to win the game and something of a chance to sneak into the playoffs (depending on how everything else shakes out). No one would have believed that 3 or 4 weeks ago.
