The Vista Panthers notched their first win of 2013, beating favored Steele Canyon 8-6. The Panthers scored on a long TD pass in the first quarter. On the PAT attempt, the holder saw that he would not be able to correctly place the ball for the kick and decided to run for it. He succeeded, giving the Panthers an 8 to zero lead.
Steele Canyon scored later in the first quarter and tried to go for two but came up short. After that first quarter, neither team was able to put more points on the board. Steele Canyon came close as they set up for a field goal attempt in the second half. They could not get the kick away, and Vista held on, sealing the victory with a late interception.
That Panthers will play at Torrey Pines next week.

It really was an exciting game, but a very sloppy one - there were at least 25 penalties between the two teams. And HS football only has 12 minute quarters!
But it was exciting and very competitive, and a great game if you like defensive football.
