Great that you go a 1 game sample over a season where he didn't get 1 K yards, nice logic there. Ummmm... Have you not followed this guy for the last 8 years or so? He is a top receiver in the league and has been that whole time. Look at his numbers from Arizona, or even from Baltimore (which is a run first offense). He is a great receiver and has been his whole career. He's had no quality drop off. That's why I pointed out the first game - he's still got it. He's been one of the best receivers in the league for years, and he's still one of the best. And the Chargers could have had him for next to nothing. He immediately would have been a go-to guy for Rivers (and as he almost never drops the ball that would have been a good thing). He is a 2 at this portion of his career, yes he used to be a elite reciever with AZ, but that time has passed. He gets almost no yards after YAC anymore. He was no better than Torrey Smith for Baltimore which no one would call a number 1. I could easily name you 20 better recievers. He has had 3 straight years under 1 K yards, that is not a number 1.

If only the Chargers could build there roster via fantasy football rules, then we could have whomever we wanted. According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk on NBC Sports, in calculations of cap space left within this years salary cap by team, the Chargers had $6.2 million left as of April 23rd of this year. Link: profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/04/23/team-by-team-cap-numbers-from-nfls-calculations/That's before Ingram went down and we had to sign Freeney, not to mention we had to sign all of our draft picks and pay players on the IR, too. It isn't just draft picks that were a part of this decision, unlike fantasy football, there are monetary considerations to take into account in the NFL as well. In my opinion there is no way Telesco turns down Boldin for a fifth round pick if the NFL told him not to worry about the salary cap consequences. But, of course, he doesn't live in a fantasy world like we do and is governed by league rules and a hard salary cap that he inherited from the outgoing regime. Come on, we've seen dozens of cases like that where the team gets creative with team salary or the QB restructures his salary to accomodate a player like that. There are ways to get it done if you really want to. It's not like Boldin had a $10 Million per year contract, either... You seem really eager to excuse the new Chargers' management. Are you related to them or something?? Not related at all. I think this new regime has got it together though. Using your one game sample size I'd take our receivers over Boldin after yesterday's performance. Reality is the Bolts aren't gonna restructure anybody's contract for Boldin's $10 million guaranteed over the next two years, at his age, when they're stuck with Meacham and Gaither's money against the cap. Our receivers are fine.

You can't get "creative" when we have to absorb all that dead money with cutting Meachem and Gaither. After Fluker was signed, we had hardly anything to work with financially. The "top 51 rule" is being eliminated, which means all contracts must be taken into account against a team's adjusted salary cap. www.overthecap.com/teamcap.php?Team=Chargers&Year=2013 Check it out. The numbers add up to our cap space being somewhere in the neighborhood of 4 million. Which makes Boldin's 6 million unaffordable.

Well, we're going to see how we do again without Floyd for at least a week or two.
Having seen several QB's restructure their deals to sign receivers in the past I have to believe that we could have cleared at least the $2 million needed to cover Boldin's contract. He sure would have been nice to have around for all those times that Floyd goes down. Boldin's like a bigger, stronger version of Charlie Joiner. Great route runner with great hands.

Boldin would be nice I'm not going to disagree there, I just think the 8 mill was better spent, cox has done pretty poorly in first 2 weeks but he graded out very high by PFF. Also Rivers did restructure his deal, the chargers need to pay donald butler tho, that is a bigger priority.
