I HATE this pick. It is incredibly stupid. First, the guy is a head case. He's an implosion waiting to happen. Second, he's not a game changer. You don't use TWO picks to get a player like this. He isn't worth it. Third, linebacker is NOT an area of dire need for the Chargers. Left Tackle, Defensive (Nose) Tackle, Defensive End, Cornerback, and Safety are all areas of much greater need for the Chargers. So they waste a 4th round pick in trading up to get a head case, above average but not dominant, player who does not play a position of great need for the Chargers. Dumbest pick in years for the Bolts. Absolutely asinine. Wow, you post that yet give me a warning for saying I don't like women's basketball. Unreal.

Telesco has let a lot of talent go just like A.J. did, and the acquisitions he's made have been less than stellar. The only guys left in free agency are castoffs that no one wants. Guys who couldn't cut it on other teams or were paid a lot more than they were worth (meaning they underachieved and got cut). I think Telesco's done a horrible job of setting up the 2013 season. He's clearly looking to the 2014 and 2015 seasons and is throwing the fans under the bus in the meantime. We'll have had 5 or 6 years in a row of crappy football before the Chargers are legit contenders again. It didn't have to be that way. I've got news for you Sir, the Chargers have not been legit contenders in some time now....that is why they have missed the playoffs three years in a row. A complete rebuild of an aging, overpaid roster was not only reasonable....it was necessary and Telesco was smart enough to realize it. The biggest problem isn't that they are trying to rebuild, it is that they still consider Rivers a franchise QB when he clearly is way past his prime and a mediocre player at best as we stand in 2013. Now hopefully that opinion won't generate another warning, but if it does so be it.

Smooth, I was with you until the part on Philip. Still think he's a top ten QB in the league at 30. He has no stability in the running game, no line and mundane play calling. I understand the interceptions and the breakdowns, but I still think he can be a top ten passer in the NFL.

Brady, Eli, Peyton, Brees, RG3, Luck, Kaepernick, Rodgers, Flacco, Ryan, Russell Wilson, Roethlisberger, Stafford are all better than Rivers. I would also argue Romo, Cutler, Dalton, Schaub, Cam Newton are better as of 2013. That would put Rivers 19th and that is assuming you think he is better than guys like Sam Bradford, Tannehill, Freeman and Locker which is also very debatable at this point. At his current salary of $18 million? Utter disaster.

FOr some reason AJ Smith thought it was a good idea to remove the talent from around him thinking that Rivers was a one man show. I remember telling a few die hard Charger fans Once they let Sproles go that the offense would suffer greatly. I was tarred and feathered for saying it... something about the last laugh.

Romo is not better than Rivers. The Cowboys are a laughingstock for dumping over 100 million into a QB that just isn't that good. Need to see way more consistency over a few years from Kaepernick, Wilson and Luck to say they are better than a guy who has been in the league as long as Philip has. You're blaming way too much on 17 and not enough on the lack of talent around him. As for Pod's point, the right decision was made to let Sproles go. No way in hell you're going to pay a non-full time running back 7 million dollars, which is what he wanted here. Not a chance.

"17" as you call him is a Turnover Machine and even in his prime consistently stunk it up vs. good teams in big games, particularly in the playoffs. His playoff stats are simply embarrassing, the last two years he has been horrific. The line isn't great, I agree but if you called up and offered The Turnover Statue for Kaepernick, Luck, RG 3 or Wilson...those teams would simply laugh hysterically before hanging up. And the Cowboys/Romo contract would be more amusing to me if the Chargers weren't paying this guy $18 million this season. As far as Sproles, he had to go at that contract number...no way you can pay that much for a 3rd down back.

So let's revive this a little bit. Is Telesco really sacrificing this year now? With Starks signed, we have a legitimate left tackle option. Signed Freeney to help bolster the pass rush. With very limited cap resources, Telesco has managed to pull out a few quality signings.

Who do we have a safety and corner for this season?

Cox will start at one corner, Shareece Wright at the other. Marcus Gilchrist will be at safety opposite Eric Weddle. Freeney had 5 sacks last year on a bad defense. He had 34 QB pressures. You better believe we will tailor packages to fit what he's good at. Right now your defense is some combination of Reyes/Liuget/Thomas/Wynn up front, Butler/Teo/Freeney/Johnson at the backer spots, Cox/Wright/Weddle/Gilchrist. Wouldn't be surprised to see Jammer come back as a 4th corner for veteran leadership.

With very limited cap resources, Telesco has managed to pull out a few quality signings. Good post, I think Telesco has done a pretty good job with the draft and his FA signings in his first off-season. Starks should be serviceable, Freeney though is being asked to switch positions and was less productive last year than Shawn Phillips by a wide margin. So we let Phillips and Barnes go and they sign Freeney for twice the price. I think they had to do it though with Ingram going down, that was absolutely brutal bad luck. I am going to be watching Rivers very closely this season. As I am sure you can tell, I have major doubts about him at this point. I would like to see the team move on from him at QB but this wasn't the year to do it as there were no good options in the draft. But if he continues to make bad decisions, fumble practically every time he is touched and throw the ball up for grabs over and over into coverage....I don't think McCoy is going to stand for it for long.
