Definitely a very tender issue for Beth and SDSU. As most would be great if any details could be released , for both parties. Hope for the best for the Team ( who must be wondering what is going on and if all players will remain) . Would be great if C. Hopkins does not make a pro team , if they could hire her as a grad - student coach

Totally. I support your right to drive yourself crazy looking for something that will never be revealed. The media and the fans can dig all they want, but I'm saying to save yourself the trouble. Swing for the fences if you want. I don't care. Blaming the administration as others have is ludicrous, but go ahead. There is no big deal behind the scenes despite the clear appearance of a major curfuffle. Once again, you appear to have made a misstep. I find this situation sad to laughable and simply another display of incompetence and boobery by this administration. I'm not the one contorting myself into a pretzel in a vain attempt to defend these folks. I swear I'm not being a smartass, and will concede that maybe I am too laid back. But, I appear to have totally missed the incompetence and boobery you speak of. Clue me in please.

It's unfortunate we can't all give Burns the retirement celebration she deserves. Aside from anything controversial that we do not know, it seems she really deserves a standing ovation for her accomplishments at SDSU.

I am not privileged enough to be in the inner circle of "know" here, but to say that the players at least don't deserve some sort of explanation is straight up absurd. At least judging by the quotes provided in multiple articles and what they're saying themselves online, it does not appear that even they know what's going on.
It goes both ways, but these kids committed to a program and some (if not most) take the risk coming here to only be left in the dark after what should have been a season to be remembered (for the right reasons).
I just think it stinks and the kids in the program deserve more respect than what they're being shown---of course from an outsiders perspective.

Aside from anything controversial that we do not know, it seems she really deserves a standing ovation for her accomplishmetns at SDSU. While, on one hand, I agree that Burns deserves a standing ovation for her accomplishments and probably even a face on SDSU's Mt. Rushmore, it's the "aside from anything controversial" you also mention is where the rub lies for me. Is it nothing? Who knows, because there's been no official announcement. We're at a juncture where season ticket renewals have been sent out for MBB and will soon be for WBB and we still have no clue if this is much ado about nothing, or the smoke that could lead to a huge internal fire within the athletic department, something with postseason sanctions, something with loss of scholarships, something that will lead to an exodus of players, etc... End the speculation, SDSU, or it will only get worse. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like to hear something from someone on high before sending in my money blindly.

Athletics admin is weak to put it mildly, but they didn't do anything wrong here, unless you consider it wrong to maintain someone's privacy. Although no one should, you all can rest assured that someone will eventually publicize the issue. to say that the players at least don't deserve some sort of explanation is straight up absurd. You can take my word for it that the ladies know what's up. It doesn't take a detective to figure out what happened. Anyone who has experienced serious adversity can empathize and sympathize with Coach. Beth Burns has earned years of respect. No one needs to complicate whatever problems she has had. I will leave it at that. Well said........but in not so nice terms I will continue. For those of you who appriciate what Beth Burns has done for SDSU, please respect her privacy. For those of you who are insensitive or trolls (or not SDSU fans). Just keep posting so we know who you are.

I'm sorry, but one can still not be a "troll" and still want to know some information as why beth "choose" to retire.
For those of you who claim privacy and let it drop that is not enough.
Until I read or watch or listen to an explanation from either the admin or beh, the chosen path of monk like silence is not enough.
In a sense, it needs to come from the "horse's mouth" which is either beth or the admin.

I'm interested in why she retired, but to be honest don't particularly care because it's WBB... I realize this post doesn't add a lot but I feel like both sides on this coin aren't going to agree with whether it should or should not be public, and it either will or won't.
I do think it's easy for those in the know to come here and say respect her privacy, as they are privy to the information. Further; it only fuels the curiosity due to the stance you are taking, I think if you had not said the reason is known by some "inner circle," I don't think the response would be quite like it is right now.

Just to toss it out there, I have had two media inquiries to me, one from the LA Times via email and another from a more sports related news site via twitter asking for my opinion as to why or if I knew anything. In both cases I stated I had nothing further to add to what the Admin and Coach Burns have said to this point and would not offer any speculation of my own. I also told them that all questions regarding Coach Burns' retirement and the disposition of the Athletics Department should be address to their director of Media relations.
The media is fishing......

Everyone seems to like a mystery. So why is it that so few fans go to women's basketball games at SDSU? New Mexico has a large following at every tourney.

Seriously this not just about mystery. It's about a lot more than that. A prime example is some dude is let go at sdsu and it causes issues for several years and hampers the athletic department for a long time. Beth's retirement does not happen in a vacuum. a small pebble thrown into a pond can have unforeseen ripple effects.
Simply put I would like to know if this situation was handled on the "up" and "up." The mere fact that that neither party declines to comment suggests otherwise.

Whenever someone says "no offense...but" someone is about to say something offensive. Fact of life. Wow, that was offensive to you? Really? You need to get thicker skin brother....you are WAY too sensitive. I'm not offended at all. You said no offense to the ladies but. I'm guessing a few of the ladies would find offense to your "no offense but" remark. Didn't think I'd have to explain that to you. Figured you would know who your comment was directed towards, but apparently not. C'mon Man!

Women's sports want equality yet they don't want the scrutiny that men's sports receive?? If Fish suddenly retired after signing a 5 year extension you can bet there would be some digging. The way this was handled only leads to speculation. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using proboards

Yeah, I'm pretty sure MOW is one of those dudes who sits in his small, isolated corner cubicle stewing about how the management of his company is utterly incompetent and have no clue what they are doing. Probably has a handful of enablers who feign agreement, but really try to avoid him as much as possible so they can get their work done. Just a guess on my part, of course.

Agree. If everyone who posted bought tickets they would help the program. Some people have a personal agenda, but the rest need to go to next years games and we can all discuss this in person!
