Anyone know the terms of her 5 year extension? Was there a buyout for firing but nothing for retiring?

I figure team vag will blog about how women's basketball coaches weigh their options noting pros and cons before making haste unforeseen decisions.

This is truly an awful loss to the athletic program. Even an abrupt retirement by Fisher would not be devastating. But to lose Beth, the soul of the women's program, will leave a void I'm not sure we can fill. Well said, Phil - We all know the infamous story about Fisher walking around campus handing out tickets, but that program eventually sold itself. Beth was a 24/7 saleswoman to any ear she could bend. While someone (Coach Y in the interim) will step in and likely fill the coaching position adequately, Beth's infections charisma, storytelling ability and tireless dedication will be irreplaceable.

The fan's let her down.
We don't deserve a good coach like her.
What else could she do?
I was impressed the day she came to a football luncheon.
She give it her all. Fisher new it and tried to share the spot light with her. The man had all the fan's and she worked and coached as hard as he.

My hunch, and it's complete speculation, would be the lack of fan support must have really weighed on her. I don't know what else she could possibly do. She had a handful of extremely loyal fans, but that's just it, it was a handful. There's no way the Aztecs should have been playing on the road at Provo in the NIT, but the tournament decision makers had no choice. We would have only drawn an embarrasing few hundred. That may have been the final straw. Any way, best of luck to Coach Burns, a great Aztec for life.

Did she join Stanford staff? Found a bio page for Beth Burns at Stanford. It states that she jointed the Stanford Cardinal staff this summer as the strength and conditioning coach for the women's basketball team??? www.gostanford.com/sports/w-baskbl/mtt/burns_beth00.htmlFunny thing though is that there is no official link to this page from the coaches or mention on her any any news release.

I believe that was during the period after Ohio State and before coming back here for her 2nd stint.

I will throw my wild ass guess into the pile.
I don't think the timing of Burns retirement shortly after the Hutson announcement is purely coincidence. After the raise Hut received (compared to what his predecessor was making), I think Burns asked for a raise, it was denied, she was upset, and up and left.

It may have even involved a reduction of her salary and her staff's. God, I hope that wasn't the reason. The future of WBB would be toast.

Anyone know the terms of her 5 year extension? Was there a buyout for firing but nothing for retiring? You can not create a buyout for not working. It is something called the 13th amendment to the constitution. You can not enter into involuntary servitude. Buyouts are for portions of the contracts that don't allow coaching other teams for a period of time.

Something weird is going on. She just up and resigned. No press conference, no press release. She was gone before any one knew it. Was it money? Was it player revolt? Was it personal issues? The less said the louder the noise. Will we ever have a Paul Harvey minute here? Time will tell.

This is too bizarre to be a legit retirement. Something happened. Not sure we will ever know the true story.

So, since we know Sterk is just going to promote the assistant, is that a good move?
