wow. sgf, steve aztec, lath19, myself: dodger fans really are all horrible and mean ME, a Dodgers fan? Uh, not quite. well, you seem to have replied that you are one, so maybe you are in fact a closet dodger fan; i'm guessing with this new response (and apprently your responses are not always easily decipherable) you must be a giants fans - to paraphrase Full Metal Jacket: inside every gn'ts fan is a dodger fan trying to get out.

ME, a Dodgers fan? Uh, not quite. You are a closet Dodger fan. Now, now. Just because I list myself on this board as a female doesn't mean I'm in the closet.

yep- in the grand scheme of things. But at least the Padres have been to the Series an entire decade since the Dodgers. Hell, it was 20 years since that '88 Series until the Dodgers won another playoff GAME! And no, I'm NOT a Padres fan. So, does that make it the last 40+ for the Padres?

I hate the yankees, but there were some good (pardon the cliche) blue collar players on those late 90s teams.

And Steinbrenner had more money than anyone else because of simple geography. Put that guy in Seattle and he wouldn't have won squat.

Not arguing that at all, hell, they sucked for 15 or 20 years with George Castanza's boss. What I am saying is they would have lost if guys like Brosis and others were replaced with the respective ARods of their day.

True, and again I don't have a horse in this race (O's and Twins fan here- STRICTLY AL), but in the 22 years since Dodgers-A's, the Padres have been the better organization- hands down. yep- in the grand scheme of things. Getting your ass handed to you like the Padres did in the series is not something to hang one's hat on. Because of one year getting to the series? The dodgers got blasted out of some playoffs, and lost twice to cards, but I'd guess they have won the devision more and been to the playoffs more. And have had only a couple really horrid years, where the Padres have had many. I am one that thinks winning championships is all that matters too so they've both been $#!+.

True, and again I don't have a horse in this race (O's and Twins fan here- STRICTLY AL), but in the 22 years since Dodgers-A's, the Padres have been the better organization- hands down. Since the last time the Dodgers won the World Series (something the Padres have still never done despite being a franchise for over 40 years), LA has won the division 5 times, San Diego 4 times. Additionally during that same time period, LA made the playoffs as the Wild Card team an additional 2 times (something San Diego has never done), including 2006 when SD & LA tied for the division. I wasn't going to bother to do the math, but my guess is that it's safe to say LA has had the better overall record since 1988 considering how many 90+ loss seasons San Diego has had. How again has SD "been the better organization - hands down"?

How again has SD "been the better organization - hands down"? They've been running their organization with about half the income that the Dodgers have had at their disposal over the last 20 years. That's reflected in the salary totals. The Dodgers should have had a much, much better record over that time than the Padres have, but it's pretty much even. Given that, you have to say that the Padres are the better run organization. Doing more with less. (Or just doing as much with much less would be more accurate.)
