The proof will be in the pudding.
There were a lot of nationwide "tax free" sales in August. They weren't really Tax Free, but the concept draws a lot of people to the stores and they do spend money including imaginary Credit Card Money on those "sales." Anything at anytime to dupe the people into spending.
American manufacture car sales will be down. We are still asking way to much money for our cars. When prices come down, people will buy, that does not look to be happening soon.
Pray for increasing sales, because decreasing sales will spook the stock market again.

Retail Sales were up 0.4%, Considerably below the mythical seasonal factor which was 1.021! IF you multiply something by 1.021, you are adding 2.1% to the value. You then tell the people that sales increased when in fact they went down 1.7%. All this dishonesty from the US Government is getting frightening The Federal Government multiplies that 1.021 times the raw data to get the increase or decrease in sales. Most people are not aware of that fact and just take the adulterated imaginary number as the actual number, just like they take the imaginary adulterated number for UI claims every week. Remember they always post two numbers, the Real Number and the Fake Number. You are free to believe whatever you want, but the fake numbers are presented to the public to keep them tranquil. "Good little sheeple! Keep your nose to the ground there is noting to worry about." Here is where you can see the fudge factor numbers that they have used and will use for years ahead. It is all posted, but most Americans don't bother to read the small print. www.census.gov/retail/marts/www/download/text/adv44x72.txt

If you believe the Federal Government numbers, you will usually be misled. There are ways to find out what is really happening across the land. As I have pointed out in the past, to get the real Unemployment Claims numbers you have got to go to the raw data compiled by the states to find out what is happening. The Federal Unemployment Insurance Claims numbers have no correlation to reality. Ditto for Retail Sales. The Federal Government projects in advance how much it is going to cheat and then, because it told you that it was going to lie to the public, it goes ahead and lies. To get the real numbers, you have to go to the states again. It is a long process, but you can add the numbers up. Or, you can take one representative state, like Texas and look at their SALES TAX RECEIPTS. If retail sales are actually up, then Retail Sales Tax Revenue will also be up, right? The state's larger cities are still running behind year-ago levels. Dallas collections are down 4.6 percent so far, Houston is off 8.3 percent, and San Antonio is down about a half-percent. Overall, allocations to Texas cities are down 4 percent this year. The statewide outlook remains in doubt. The Federal Reserve's Beige Book, a periodic look at regional economies, reported Wednesday that retail activity was down in the district that includes Texas.
