I spent some considerable time going over the last 4 years of recruiting and comparing that to the current SDSU football roster. I am only commenting on the recruits ratings upon entering SDSU, of course some play much better then their original rating and some play below, but usually they are evaluated correctly. SDSU will not be losing any 3 star rated players to graduation this year; although, you can argue that both Escobar and McFadden played much better then their original rating and will be huge losses. Having said that, here is a projected list of how many 3 star players SDSU should have next year [not including the incoming Freshman, which could see at least 10]: Senior [4], Junior [11], Sophmore [16], Freshman [10+]. I am sure some of the Freshman will be redshirted, but it is amazing how the overall talent level has increased and is spread throughout the different years. Football is only going to get better going forward and could very well crack the top 25 at some point next year, and more importantly, can sustain the top 25 rating. Furthermore, 2014 could see the Aztec football program finally get into the Boise State like National Love discussion. Going back over the last decade, SDSU would be lucky to sign any 3-star or above level players, and now most of the guys on the field will have been rated as such upon setting foot on the Mesa. I compared the recruiting efforts to a Big Ten program like Michigan State, and while we are not quite at their level, we are now in the neighborhood. What Michigan state does is recruit more 4-star players and an occasional 5-star which SDSU has not been able to do as yet, but with the recruiting momentum we have, I think getting those uber good players will start to happen. It would be nice if the Big 12 brought us aboard in a few years, then the flood gates open.

The glass IS half full and the BE debacle is paying devidends in having exposed us nationally to recruits who otherwise would never have known about us. Awesome. We set out to plant bananas and instead got palm trees. The monkey fell off the tree but landed luckily in the water and so the crocodile didn't have to go hungry. Ah the randomness of it all.

I just want to beat USC/UCLA and have the best NCAA football program in SoCal.
That way, I don't have to stress over the Chargers losing.
Oldie Out

Well to be honest, I never heard of SDSU until I was living out here. SDSU = South Dakota State, until very recently outside of the southwest bubble. The recent FB, and especially basketball is huge for us, not the BE. That was more laughingstock than positive exposure.

There is no doubt that there is a huge positive feedback in NCAA sports. The Aztecs are caught in this positive feedback loop. In the past the Aztecs were caught within the negative feedback that losing affects.

I would agree had the cast of characters been near stable. As it is now unfolding and the idea that we were not in for Basketball and the other sports, I think we have made the right move.

We had a home for our other sports, they weren't going to be left in the cold.

The football team is making good progress and I would be very happy if this happened 10-15 years ago. Unfortunately, with all the sudden changes in college football, you need to be good right now or you may be left behind. Let's hope they will be good enough, fast enough to be selected for a BCS conference although I don't think it is just about how good you are but what your market brings to the conference. In that regard SDSU should be better than most.

Does this mean we won't suck on NCAA 2014?

I can't foresee that happening at least for quite some time. What is happening in AZTEC football is a foundation building of sorts. Hoke brought Rocky and thru this they are establishing a new culture of winning. I would think the plan is when Rocky decides to hang it up, there will a coach in waiting that they have groomed and has the right core beliefs that they have established (ala Coach Fisher & Bball). Hiring from within and keeping consistency like many many other traditional programs.
