www.msnbc.msn.com/id/33258707/ns/us_news-environment/Rogue River finally runs free. 2 dams on the Klamath are next. A great victory for salmon and steelhead. Boy will Limbaugh, Beck and Hannity be crying "wackos" over this!! Those guys just don't get it. They can't separate good science and management from PETA. This is mainly due to limited educational past.

I have not thought it through, but a stand alone water basin storage filled by solar powered pumps might be a widely applicable solution for a lot of the fish/water problems.

Why do you assume that "Wing Nuts" (aka people whose opinions differ from yours! ;D) would be opposed to this?
I would like to hear how well the pumping idea works out.
The big water problem in the West is that there is not enough water and too many people. We've known this for a long time.
The big issue closer to us (i.e, closer to San Diego) is the Sacramento Delta. Right now many farms south of the Delta are turning to dust because there is not enough water. 40% unemployment in places such a Mendota is a fact. Unlike people such as Sean Hannity, I do not blame everything on the Delta Smelt (or whatever it is). But, unlike the environmentalists who appear to be unaware that anybody live or WORKS south of the Delta, I realize that many people are suffering because of the water cut off.
Unless we can solve the water problems, California is going to experience a massive decline (in all senses of the word) in the coming decades. It may have been foolish to allow such massive emigration to California in the 30s and beyond, but those folks or their descendants ARE HERE.
If there is not compromise, the economic situation in California is going to become a worse disaster than it now is in many parts of the state.

Wmm.... I am not assuming. You can take it to the bank. As soon as they comment, I will post the link. Yes, So Cal situation / central valley is tough. However, the salmon guys who lost their boats in central and No cal were "workers" as well wouldn't you say? As far as overall water use is concerned, we have seen the waste down here. Use can be reduced. What is tough for us to acknowledge is that at one time the West was wide open and had, what seemed like, unlimited resources. We have been warned for years that there was limitations, but growth went on like there was no tomorrow. There was just too much money to be made. I should know, I once worked in land use for the County of San Diego and was involved in many growth wars.

Can we also have free flowing rivers and farms? I think that if people really went to work on these problems that we could mazimize the water that we have.
