"I thought it was a play that wasn't showboating, it needed to be made. He was almost cut off, on the fast break they played the wings and he saw an opportunity to make a good basketball play and he made it."

For him, it looked routine. I bet Jamaal finds that play much easier to make than making a pass out of a double team.

The dunk did many things for sdsu. It gives us more national attention from people who don't pay attention west of the mississippi, it vaults Jamaal playing skills to sports writers who other wise keeps a blind eye on sdsu and people will watch aztecs on tv giving exposure to recuiting across the nation, and it will also give the other aztec players more attention. So good for the dunk. (Just don't do it to much)

The fact that the dunk was made and was essential in winning a very close game on the road by three points is the most important result.
Had he missed it and/or we lost this game, the storyline would have been much much different and none of it positive.
Thank You Jamaal!!! Thank You Aztecs!!!!!

Here's my take away from this thread...Coach Dutcher thinks alot like Coach Fisher.

the coaches have seen him do it in practice. As noted by the coaches good if you make it, if not .......... Also adds another element to the Aztecs, team is noted as defense first , then the idea the coaches give the players the opportunity to make plays on their own, not always seen by recruits. Many recruits look for a up tempo , run and gun style of play, this may reinforce the idea that "Aztec Style" can fit their game.

Well, except for the record... on the return trip down the floor JF lost his man to a screen on dribble-penetration and the Aztecs gave up a hoop + a foul so I wouldn't go so far as to say that it was essential in winning the game.

I remember the play. He didn't lose his man. There was a ball screen, he and Rahon switched and Rahon fouled the guy. smh

Thanks for posting this... Maybe, just maybe, now that both Fish and Dutch have spoken up praising the play, those in the minorty who have been buzzkilling Maal's steez will revaluate their perspective on the dunk. As others have said, this has already paid dividends beyond anyone's expectations and will continue to do so. What did Fish say in today's paper? "I've always been someone who gives players freedom to make basketball plays."This little extra bit of pub has more upside potential for our recruiting efforts than anything that could have happened short of running the table in OOC.
