Then weight the basketball tournament credits towards the teams that earn them...and package marquee games the same they are doing football...to ESPN and the over-the-air networks. Start there then...

From a purely men's basketball perspective... which is what Katz writes about... he of course is absolutely correct.
From the broader perspective of the entire athletic department, and university as a whole, that conclusion may be quite different.

Nice rhetoric. Now how do we pay bills on the 37 cents a day we'd get from the Hair Conference. Especially when California pulls the plug. All things being equal this would be a no brainer. But, sadly, they are not.

What does Katz care if all we get for the headache is $800K?
Interesting that he dogged ESPNU and the BW in his article.

Interesting that he dogged ESPNU and the BW in his article. Also even though the game was a good one The Save Mart center was less than half full.

I have always liked Andy Katz.
He gives constant pub to SDSU.

I actually think he brings up some good points from a long-term standpoint. That being said, what we are losing in conference match ups, we should be gaining from non-conference games.

He used to follow the aztecs closely. He mentions watching them when they were at peterson gym. He is amazed at what Fisher has done.

Honest question.
Can anyone think of a time when a college decided to down grade its most prominent sport (at this time) to a conference as bad as the Big West?

BYU football to independence? Their basketball to the WCC. Going by your definition of prominent program, their basketball was at heights their football hasn't seen since 84.
