The 2010-11 Sweet 16 Team had the following -
10 regular season wins decided by 9 points or less; 4 regular season wins decided by 3 or less 2 regular season wins decided by 2 MWC tourney games against UNLV won by 74-72
For crying out loud, we beat IUPUI 56-54 on a neutral court and beat Cal Poly 51-45 at Viejas!
The point is, good teams win close games (even not playing at their best) and teams that win close games are going to be good Big Dance teams. I think this team will continue to win close games and will be a VERY Good tournament team.
That being said, my ulcer is acting up again.

Close games, and winning them, is nothing new around these parts. My wig has gained more than a few grey hairs with this team over the years, but the beer usually tatses good postgame.

Close games aren't a big deal unless you're losing them. The game vs. Syracuse was an exhibition in the wind, other than that, this team is 1 amazing block away from being undefeated in normal College basketball games this season. If anything, close games just enhance the experience and sharpens the sword. The more clutch situations a team has under its belt, the better it pays off during tourney time.

But nothing...this was a road victory in conference...this W will be very valuable down the stretch. Fresno will notch a couple wins they shouldn't at their place...we got out of there with the win...and that is all that counts.

The good thing about Fresno being tough is that they have a chance to knock off the other conference favorites who might show up thinking it's an easy win.

We basically had two starters out with injury. A win is a win.

Great point about the Sweet 16 team. It's definitely not lost on me that there were some close games. Hell, even the regional final against Temple had some brutal offensive stretches that made it closer than it should have been.
Aren't you guys/gals expecting to win games when they get down the stretch at this point? it's why I was surprised to lose the close one to Arizona. That's what Magic Johnson used to call "Winning Time."
I look on the floor the past two seasons and I see assassins who take over games and do what it takes to win during "Winning Time."
Someone steps up: Jamaal, X, and Chase have all done so numerous times over the past 2+ seasons.
Based on what he showed last night, Winston is of the same mettle with his block, taking the ball to the rack and getting fouled, and making some smart ball handling/passing decisions. When he learns to drain the FTs like Jamaal has for the most part, then he will be ready to join the club.
We are not done coming together yet, which is very exciting. Hang tight and enjoy the ride!
