Good hire. He is 66+ years old so I am not sure Toledo is looking to move on to another gig right away (or ever). He has something to prove after a not so great result his last stop.
I have said it before, having more than one guy with head coaching experience on the staff is great. I liked it best when it was Hoke, Long and Borges. It will be great with Rocky Long and Bob Toledo. Better coaching = better teams...has anyone noticed the past 3 seasons? SDSU went to a bowl game and had good victory totals!!! Next year will be a true test, tougher schedule. I like the hire. GO AZTECS!

I am sure Bob Toledo will be an excellent hire. When at UCLA, his offenses were very effective, the key will be how the past few O Line recruiting classes pan out.
I will be interested to see who he will favor as the starting QB, Morin, Jefferies, Favreau or Dingwell.

Good hire? He's a total retread, a guy who's in his 60's.

How long after our first 300 yard rushing game do the "predictable" offense threads start? Lol We'll have who, WYO, UNM at home this year? So after we grind one out against one of them, the SD fans will only come out if we throw the ball twice a snap p-sots will inevitably follow. Well...let's hope we don't have NM & WY at home...that'll mean that we're still in the MWC and NO ONE wants that... It's going backwards...

Good hire? He's a total retread, a guy who's in his 60's. He's the only HC that had any semblance of success at UCLA following the departure of Terry Donahue, even though it was short lived. A coach is only as good as his latest gig. As always, we shall see. (By the way, I'm 61, still hit the gym everyday and have a 34 waist. It's really not that hard if you have the attitude).

Good hire? He's a total retread, a guy who's in his 60's. That would be a concern to me if he was hired as the Head Coach; but not as the OC.

Got no problem with this hire. Perhaps my only concern is his age. "Fire in the belly" type of $#!+. The man has had a damn fine career. College Football HOF? Of course not. But nobody of that caliber is going to be our OC. Bob Toledo was terrible at Tulane. However, "terrible" and "Tulane" just fit together like carrots and peas (Forrest Gump). Also, Toledo is not going to want to end his impressive career with TWO losing performances. This is a very good hire for SDSU. Go kick some ass, Bob!

Makes sense, Rocky owes him one. Let's see if Toledo is as good as Al Borges in his play calling. I'm assuming he's sticking with the Pro-Set. Oldie Out Ya mean all those great calls Borges was making against BYwho? Geez, even his own running back wondered what was up. Holy Toledo can certainly do no worse.

Coordinators can go on into their 70's in some cases. I love this hire. Toledo was a good coach at UCLA and has a ton of experience. Rocky came through again. Whatever conference we end up in we're going to have a solid offense.

Rocky is going out with his guys and with some aztecs, can't fault him for that, when he moves on we'll be starting with a whole new staff, but that's likely the way it should be anyway.

He will be using it in the West Coast Offense, and we should see major improvement in the offense with both the rush & passing game. Plus, with all his years on the West Coast at UCLA he will do very well in the recruiting game.

Reposting this... From an article a few years ago in reference to him taking back play calling duties. theadvocate.com/sports/723109-64/story.html“You’ve got to try to threaten deep,” Toledo said. “You have to make them respect the field vertically. I don’t think we did that very well last year. We were much more of a nickel, dime type of passing game while trying to get guys to run after the catch. Well, we didn’t run very well after the catch to be honest with you. “My philosophy is we are going to run the ball, run the ball and get people in the box, and then we are going to take advantage of single coverage. We are going to go deep. So you’ll see us take four or five shots at least during the course of the game.” Excellent article! I like his offensive philosophy... it actually sounds kind of Coryell-esque... The vertical game is an integral part, multiple reads, tailoring your offense to the strengths of the players on hand, an offense designed to create matchups. Looking forward to seeing it in action.
