as the Spurs beat the reeling Lakers. scores.espn.go.com/nba/recap?gameId=400278242Bryant had a sluggish start offensively and the Lakers fell behind 54-45 at the half.
His first basket came with less than a minute remaining in the first quarter and he closed the half 2 for 6 from the field. Bryant credited his poor shooting to Spurs second-year player Kawhi Leonard.
"It was Kawhi's defense," Bryant said. "He did a good job."
Leonard finished with 11 points, three rebounds, two assists, two steals and one blocked shot in 33 minutes while primarily guarding Bryant and World Peace.
"Kawhi Leonard was the start of the show as far as I'm concerned," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. "He had a great night and is getting better and better defensively and starting to find his way offensively. I thought that was great."

It's impossible to not love/respect Kawhi's game... dude knows his role... and plays with heart.
He may just become my favorite Aztec of all time.

Kawhi had his hand in Kobe's face for his final shot in the closing seconds.
Great to see Kawhi getting back in the flow.

The announcers were talking about him quite a bit. It's great to see him get so much positive attention. I think the Spurs are getting more comfortable with the idea of making it Kawhi's team in a couple years.

I was at the game with my 2 sons. First pro basketball game ever that I have been able to attend. Kawhi was awesome the entire night. My sons wanted to see Kobe go off, and to his credit he found a way to score points. But almost all of Kobe's points were when Kawhi wasn't in the game. Kawhi shut him down. The last play of the game score was 105 - 108 with the Spurs up...EVERYONE knew the ball was going to Kobe for the 3 point attempt to push it to overtime. Nash gets the inbound, passes to Kobe and Kawhi is on him like glue...forces Kobe to take an off balance, awkward shot and miss. Kawhi is the real deal! P.S. Sported Aztec gear at the game Go Aztecs!

Great game for Kawhi. He simply smothered Kobe and never let him get an open look.

When Kobe gives you props, the world will follow.
Meh, we always knew about Kawhi. He's our boy.
Nice pub for the school too.

yeah, the announcers repeated themselves several times about Kawhi's school ... "San Diego State Aztecs" .... good pub. working on Kobe is no easy task even if your all-pro Kawhi did a great job. And your are right Kawhi did alter Kobe's last shot.
Kudo's to Kawhi ...

tell you what TWC announcers really milked the SDSU connection, fully knowing the Aztecs were going to follow the Laker game...loved that 1-2 punch.

The "Kawhi Leonard Basketball Practice Facility" has a nice ring to it, no?
