I believe I said on the old board he would win multiple Cy Young awards, barring injury. Sometimes when you know...you know.

Today broke an MLB record: Most consecutive starts allowing 2 or fewer runs (at least 5IP/start). 15 is the record.
To be able to count on a guy giving you 5 or more innings and not allowing more than 2 runs is to have a guy to never let go of.

To be able to count on a guy giving you 5 or more innings and not allowing more than 2 runs is to have a guy to never let go of. Latos held Los Angeles to four hits in seven innings. He set a big league record with his 15th straight start of five or more innings with two or fewer runs allowed. He had been tied with Greg Maddux(notes) (1993-94) and Mike Scott (1986) with 14.
Latos (14-5) also lowered his major league-leading ERA from 2.25 to 2.21. His 10 strikeouts matched his career high, and his 113 pitches were a career high. He walked none.

I know Jimenez has all of those wins but how do you not give he CY to Latos with the way he's pitched all year.

Another thing about Latos: 16 of his 26 starts were on the road. That is significant because NL teams have scored a half run per game more at home than on the road. And none of the road games were at Petco Park against the Padres.

Latos has 30 less innings, but is very close to Jimenez in strikeouts, and has a better ERA and WHIP (and its not that close). Won/Loss should not be factored in too much for Cy Young, much of it has to do with run support. Jimenez: 190 innings, 178 K's, 1.15 WHIP, 2.79 ERA. Latos: 162 innings, 170 K's, 0.96 WHIP. Another candidate is Adam Wainwright: 200 innings, 184 K's, 1.03 WHIP, 2.34 ERA (17 wins). If the Pads win the West, I say you give it to Latos. He has been more effective than Ubaldo, Josh Johnson, and Wainwright.

this guy appears to have as much potential as any pitcher in the majors. let's just hope he continues to mature and not resort back to his childish behavior that he has always exhibited in his past. unfortunately i have often found that leopards don't change their spots. let's hope this kid stays on the straight and narrow now...apparently Heath Bell got in his face last year to get him to grow up and it appears to be working....i love his smooth delivery. compared to Peevy who will probably not ever have an extended career.

What's more is I think Luebke makes the starting rotation next year and I don't think Simon Castro is to far behind either. Castro has huge potential and Luebke definitely has a major league arm.
Our starting 5 looks to only get better

Agreed, Tec.
Send Correia to long relief, and trade LeBlanc if possible, for prospects or a bat. If anyone is interested this off-season.

Our starting 5 looks to only get better Stauffer should be in the starting rotation next year. And maybe Chris Young will sign one of those 1 year incentive laden contracts. He would be a good gamble at the right price.

Latos is scheduled to start Fridays game at St. Louis where quite a few of the Aztec roadies will be in attendance. Nice timing.
