Nope. It will be exact same as the MWC but at least we will have a lot more money and a better t.v. deal

Nope. It will be exact same as the MWC but at least we will have a lot more money and a better t.v. deal I know, but didn't we ALL think that it would improve our ability to get into the playoff? I know that wasn't the selling point, but I must say I'm disappointed. The additional TV money and exposure will be great, but we're still among the "also rans."

I seriously suggest you people boycott ESPN. They've single handily destroyed College sports being the puppet master behind all of this BCS bull$#!+.

Since we're talking about SDSU's possibility of getting into one of the big bowls, it also helps us in this sense.
The BE won't be a great conference but it will be massively better than the MWC. No MWC school is going to have any chance of getting to a big boy bowl with even one loss in the conference. However, the BE might be good enough that an 11-1 BE team will qualify. Notice the qualifier "might." The loss would depend on when, to whom and other factors.

If SDSU goes undefeated next year with wins at Ohio State, at Oregon State and Boise State, Louisville and the Big East Championship Game they will be in the Top 4 and in the playoff (although it doesn't start next year). Unless there are multiple undefeated teams I think SDSU has a good chance to get in a playoff if they go undefeated.

I would think a 1 loss Big East champion would be the highest ranked team of these 5 conferences almost every year as well. This is pretty much the Big East's BCS bid to lose. Not happy about the revenue inequalities, but its a better system then it was before. If the Big East continues to outperform the ACC, I'm curious what type of pressure/leverage it would be able to exert to get its own BCS bid too down the road? I will say, this doesn't really help the Big East keep teams such as Louisville, Rutgers and Cincinnati from jumping ship to a true BCS league, but protects a bit when/if they leave the conference. I think that risk of flight is the real reason the Big East lost its automatic bid.

Given this scenario in the future, if they were to win out and complete against a one loss BE team for the coveted spot, who would win out? Not saying BE wouldn't, but it's this kind of scenario, (yes, even a MW team), that could conceivably undermine anything less than an undefeated BE team. It is, what it is.

The way I look at it, there is really no way the BE should not be ranked higher than the other conferences at the end of the year.

“While it may hurt the pride to see the Big East lumped in with those other conferences, the fact remains that this is a victory for the Big East. Because this conference -- given the schools remaining and the schools entering next season -- should finish with the highest ranked team out of this group every single year. Look at the past history. Current or future Big East schools would have gotten a guaranteed spot eight of the past nine years. Hawaii in 2007 is the only exception. So even though there will be no "automatic qualifier" label moving forward, there will be six automatic spots available, and the Big East has a great shot to get one of them every single season. “ espn.go.com/blog/bigeast/post/_/id/39196/big-east-gets-access-in-future-playoff-formatIn Aresco I trust! (so happy we don't have Crig Thompson leading us anymore) Other BE bowl tie-ins are already in the works as well. This is essentially a Big East automatic qualifying spot to the Big $$$ Bowls. The other 4 conferences (MWC, C-USA, MAC & Sun Belt) will have a very slim chance at the AQ spot. This is a win for the Big East. Next up is our $10+ million TV contract. Then team # 14.

Whatever the chances were before, this development probably keeps Fresno in the MWC.

Kind of sucks since the ACC is not much better if at all than the Big East.

Kind of sucks since the ACC is not much better if at all than the Big East. Yup. The ACC is part of the cartel... It is what it is. Still, the Big East will be just fine and is a HUGE improvement over the MWC for SDSU (I really feel sorry for the rest of the schools that have no option but the MWC). I am really excited for the Western Division to begin next year in the Big East!
