did anyone really think we had a chance? i was expecting a 20 point blowout...
on the other hand the Aztecs
Outrebounded Syracuse Forced More Turnovers More Steals equal number of assists got to the line
i thought passing for the most part was quick and crisp, better than past Aztec teams.
Played Well: Shepard, Obrien, Rahon, Tapley
On land this game would have been much closer. Syracuse still managed to shoot 44 percent...wouldnt have been much different indoors.

I dont think they were much better than the Aztecs.

I was at the game, Tapley was 3/13 , I think he would agree that he didn't play a good game. Our shooting was horrendous, blame the sun, wind, boat, etc...whatever it was we got beat. SDSU hold the rebounding disparity mostly in thanks to catching their own airballs/misses.

...we only lost by 13 when we shot 17 - 63 from the field (27%), 1 - 18 from three (5.6%) and best of all 14 - 33 (42.4%) from the free throw line... You can't shoot much worse than that!
We shot Thirty three free throws! Really, that is a way to defeat a big team like Syracuse.
I also like how JJ played.

For the positives...I love JJ's all around game....He is really a difference maker and provides some stability for this team. He's talented, scrappy and a great passer.
I liked what I saw from Winston in his first ever game at this level...played more than I thought he would...He looks like he will be as good as advertised defensively when he get's comfortable...real nice block on the 6-10 guy near the end of the game (the one that Enberg credited Rahon with by mistake)
Maal was a little out of control but I think he'll reel it in. When he's in a game that he can actually use his outside shot, it will really open things up in the middle against the big long teams like Cuse....outside shooting wasn't happening for anyone...and the conditions obviously even affected FT's.
Rahon looks like he's in better form to start out the year and may be able to contribute at his 2010 level which would be huge for this team. We need his 3pt shooting back.
When conference play comes around it will be nice to have James Johnson on board...We need another bigger inside presence...and he is more of a phyiscal, thick big body rebounder than the finesse play we got from Garrett Green. I think this team really goes to another level when he steps into that lineup next to DeShawn and the rotation of guards becomes set. Lot's to look forward to.
There is no way this team is not going to do well in the long run...No question SDSU is tournament caliber.

They would have made at least 5 to 6 more on an arena.

Yeah, I thought Shepard looked comfortable on the court even though his stats don't look too hot. Esp. against a team the caliber of Syracuse.
Jamaal will be fine. I hope Thames will be fine. It would be great to have Rahon play like we expected him to his senior year.

I remember someone on here saying FT% was not important or something along the line of "who cares if a guy can't hit FTs".
If we'd even shot respectably from the FT it'd have been a completely different game.

I was there and the FT's were all going to the left in the first half. Thought that it was the wind zipping through. But the second half FT were not much better. The team got down and frustrated because normal shots were not going in, bad karma. In the second half we did show more fight especially for the 50-50 balls and they had many good stops. The only problem was they went back down and threw it away. SU would then score. a 4 point turnaround.
I don't think Maal hit one 3 the whole game. and he played angry, then lost. We need to work on his head!
Oh well it's just one game, remember the YBU game when we lost .... went on to be 34-3
I still and aztec for LIFE!!!!!

He is trying to be too flashy and ended up with four turnovers (no assists) in 21 minutes of play. Until he can play more under control, get an outside shot and make some free throws, I'm not quite as high on Winston as many of you are. He did get four offensive rebounds, seven total.
