Bottom line is Syracuse hit their shots. We didn't. A lot of missed opportunities. That being said, there's still an entire season of basketball to be played. We'll find our rhythm. Aztec for life.

I'm going to erase this game off the DVR, save room for the upcoming Wyoming game.

Yep, brilliant move by boeheim, nearly a guaranteed win for Syracuse with their zone against a team that will be top 20 come come March. Great resume boost for Syracuse. I was at the game too, our boys never did adjust to the zone or the wind. In the first half the wind on our end was a factor, and I believe that spooked them and they never recovered. Hey, I'm not giving up my season tickets..... no way. They learned something today and I hope they will adjust.

Make half of the FT misses, different game entirely.
Dye cast early with an unrecoverable double digit defecit.can't go down that much, that early against that type of team in those conditions. Was surprised such an experienced team came out so meekly -- deer in headlights syndrome was in effect. Syracuse showed what Big East basketball is: Physical. Better to learn the lessons now than in March -- and it was definitely a March Madness preview and atmosphere.
Finally, as bad as we played out of the gate, we showed the ability to gang with a top 10 team. I think we'll be alright.

Even last year we would get ourselves into a third quarter hole at times...Super Maal would have to pull tricks out of his hat to save the day then. We gotta get stronger in the paint.
Wait a second.
We lost!!!
Are we supposed to fire somebody or throw some kind of fit on this board right about now ?!?!?!?

This season I think we will definitely miss the calming and composed attitude of Tim Shelton (especially in close games). Hopefully, another veteran can step up.

At least for today, we were overrated and overhyped. Both mens and womens teams. Now they have to earn it. No excuses.

This team needs to meld. Our rating is more for mid season than the opening game. I didn't think SU really looked like a #9 team either. Oh well onward and up ward.

Hard to actually see the game if you we're there. Fun idea, bad game. Some of the shots weren't even close

Seemed like there were a lot of Orange fans there. More than I expected.

Must have been at least a couple thousand Cuse fans. Major representation and props to them.
I sometimes didn't understand our substitution patterns. Rahon looked to be the only Aztec who could actually get an outside shot off who was comfortable with doing so. He was also fairly successful at driving inside whereas X couldn't manage to get close to the hoop without having a Syracuse big stuff him. Fish nevertheless didn't use Rahon all that much. Being out on the wing, Chase really had no chance since there was always a long, tall active Orange man out there with him.
That said, first game so no big deal. But we sure better start practicing our FTs. Although a bunch of fans around me were blaming the wind in the first half, it was clear in the second half that our enemy on FTs wasn't the wind, it was us.

I was at the game and was surprised by the boxscore's rebounding. We out rebounded them by 10%.
SDSU offensive Rebounding = 36% Orange offensive Rebounding = 26%
This is especially surprising because the Aztecs missed so many free throws. When one team misses many more free throws it gives the other team better stats in rebounds because rebounding missed free throws is much easier for the defensive team. I bet if we just counted the percentage of rebounds on missed FG that the Aztecs advantage is even more. That is something I would not have quessed from watching the game. Note on the Wind: The side the Aztecs started on was the wind side because the control tower "protected" the other side. The second half the wind was not nearly as strong. This meant the Orange never had a really bad wind period like the Aztecs did in the first half. I judged the wind from the bottom flags on the tower. They were straight out in the first half and drooping in the second half.

Predicting a win is far from guaranteeing one. People on the prediction thread were generally hopeful, not guaranteeing anything. Other than the usual couple outliers, point me to where "most" (your word) was calling it a guaranteed win for the Aztecs.

But no-one was guaranteeing a Syracuse victory. I'm sure Boheim was expecting more from SDSU. They really $#!+ the bed with that performance.
