How are we first place when Fresno State has same record and beat us? No one has a better record than us - that puts us in first place. They can have their own celebration. You don't get this celebration thing, do you?

Yahoo!! Aztecs in first place and will win conference with a win in Larryme!! ;D Sell lah brate!! Today. Woooo ho! Get outside and blow your conch shell and sell lah brate the Aztec win! Smile, and say after me, "Fight on, and on". Now smile again. 8-3! Yeah, bay bee! Now slap yourself and realize that we are not a miserable 3-8 like just a few chuckie years ago and we are 8-3!! YEAH!! Woo hoo! C'mon git wit it! All day today let everyone you know and everyone you encounter hear it! "AZTECS WIN"! Again. All day and all night, just keep saying, "S. D. S. U." until someone comes up and starts sayin' it wit you! Hail Aztec Montezuma! ;D (note for mod: is this post too happy?) HAM Personally, I couldn't be happier if the Aztecs win 10 games this year. I believe if they win in Laramie I don't see them losing any bowl game they are awarded. On the other side, if they lose in Laramie, it will mark the third consecutive 8-4 season. Not exactly BCS material perhaps, but the one difference this year is the number of "quality" wins within the conference.

I'm confused...I've never been here as an Aztec fan...well since the 1996 debacle...which somehow I was able to block out of my memory until this season triggered it.
I'm still holding my breath. lol
Yes, my old heart-breaks as an Aztec fan have done this. :-)

Go back to the early Fisher days. MBB wasn't exactly packing them in. It took awhile, and a few consecutive 20 win seasons, to get the students and alumni jacked. I think football could be about to turn that corner!

Not exactly BCS material perhaps, but the one difference this year is the number of "quality" wins within the conference. I think the excitement is about having a 2 win season two years before the begin of a three bowl run and 8+ win seasons. We can rationalize the negative aspects of this and certainly no one is seriously propping that we are ready for a national championship run yet but like Fish's middle years, it is a stepping stone that is the platform for higher gains later. Sure our schedule will be tougher but this team has grown and moved farther away from the toxic negativity that permeated the program for a quarter century and frankly helped limit our ability to win. This is the same argument I made about Fisher when people were growing impatient with him. Stepping stone, not a mediocre finish. Oh, and I am very excited! Aztec for Life!!

I'm pleased and I'm very happy for the team and staff, especially the seniors who have been through three head coaches since their arrival on campus. On the other hand I'm very disappointed by the failure of the students and community at large to embrace this team. Seems like the program is growing in spite of the students and the community. Hope the trend reverses soon. Take it easy! You know it is always like that. No matter how well a team plays, or appears to be it still takes time for it to permeate into the general fabric of the whole community. Just look at the Aztec Basketball team for instance. Steve is now starting his 14th season here, but this is the first year all home games have been sold out! Even though we had a remarkable season just two years ago of 34-3, and have won 25 or more games for the past 4 years. I was fortunate enough to be in attendance at the first sell-out game at Viejas/Cox arena back in 2002 that was over 9 years ago, but now it is finally a regular event. More people will be buying season tickets for next season due to what this team has done this year, and of course telling their friends about the Aztecs, but it will grow a little at a time. Of course we hope that next season's schedule will help also. It just won't happen overnight, but in some ways that may be a blessing. Do you want to have to wait a couple of hours to get into the stadium before the game? That is one thing that will happen once our team becomes more popular, and I won't complain about that, but others will.

Feels good now, will feel much better if they beat Wyoming. My gauge on the quality of a coach is how much the team improves over the season. So Rocky rates an A on this one.
