The UNLV stadium will never get built. I believe that UNLV's stadium or a version of it will get built. Nevada is NOT California and has nowhere near the anti-development mentality in its citizenry or the legislature. This school is Nevada's "prize" and "pride and joy" AND its in Las Vegas. There IS money available and they WILL use it.

Especially San Diego. i don't see why we couldn't have something better than Fresno's stadium, just a little bigger, more vertical so its less space, and built with the ability to be added onto in the future if the football program were to really take off.

There is wide spread support for this project, including support from both political parties. In reality, the project is more for the city of Las Vegas than UNLV.
One third funds coming from advertising, super-boxes and naming rights. One third coming from rental reciepts, and one third coming from taxes generated by the stadium and new construction. No existing tax money or public liability. Thats what they have a private partner for (Majestic Realty). Partnership with a private entity is the only way a project like this gets done. In the end it will be a cash cow for UNLV, but not as much as the Thomas & Mack, because profits are shared 50-50 with the private partner.
Besides UNLV's 6 or 7 home games, concerts, UFC events, boxing and a move to locate MLS games in Las Vegas are also planned. The Las Vegas Bowl and bids to host conference championship games are anticipated. The National Finals Rodeo, which operates 10 event days, will probably move over from the Thomas & Mack, putting a few Country Western stars in concerts at the T&M during the NFR, with UNLV now able to play basketball home games at the T&M during the first half of December, and not playing games at the Orleans.

I hope UNLV's stadium gets built. I'm looking forward to making fun of them when they play in a one-third filled stadium like they have made fun of us for that for so Long.

LOL at those of you who think San Diego is "anti-development". Are you laughing ironically? If you're serious, you obviously are not in the development business, nor could you possibly know anyone that is.

Does UNLV need 60K seats for football? You would think they would want around 45K.

The city/state plan on using it for many more and larger functions than the football team---which, afterall only plays 7 or 8 times per year. You may even see Las Vegas make a run at hosting the Super Bowl, but they'd likely have to bump up the seat count.

Does one need to be in the development business to see all of the $#!+ that has been built on and around SDSU in the last decade? ..Sent from my Samsung GS3..

No, but you do need to be able to read and be aware of political reality---IF you want to be in touch with the real world.

I've seen tons of feasibility studies and renderings (both public and private knowledge) for the last 4-5 years for these sport complex / stadium projects in Vegas. Everytime they always start approaching the $1B mark and disappear into obscurity. $800 million for 60k seats is out of control for the Vegas area, land is cheaper and the AEC market is hungry (starving at that). Per the report, this doesn't even include improvements outside of the complex for traffic, infrastructure on-site and it isn't even clear if this $800 million is the construction cost of the project cost. Seems very expensive unless it includes multiple other new UNLV buildings, new central plant, etc.
They could drop a new world class, revenue generating facility on this site for $250M, with another $100M for all the improvements that would be required.

Just to put this back on topic.
That UNLV financing plan sounds shady as hell.
