We are pretty much missing this football season as we are traveling the USA. To keep up with the Aztecs I signed up for the UT digital edition and ASR Rivals. I did find the Army game on TV, but that's it. Getting good info is difficult from afar. This board is primarily opinions so the raw data level is somewhat low unless you have the time to weed through all the hire a new coach threads. The absence of TV speaks for itself. What really has surprised me is the major drop in journalistic skill at the UT this year. They haven't been top notch for years but they are really shallow now with their new found penchant for one sentence paragraphs. Sunday's paper was pure gloss over shallow coverage. I find myself missing BS. What has also surprised me is my reliance on ASR Rivals. For years I avoided it as I thought it was a place for people worried about how many stars some 17 year old big fish in a small high school pond could get. Turns out I was wrong, they have some serious team coverage. In fact I'm asking myself if there is another SD news source that would enable me to drop the UT and go to ASR for all my Aztec stuff. It's more than what I consider star bs. Fred Noonan.

Brent is sorely missed, he was a good writer and a real journalist even if he was a pr--- sometimes. We just signed a bball tv contract and the bball writer has no interest in finding out what the contract actually is.

As much as everyone hated the MTN at least out of towners we're able to watch the games (of course locals were not).
The only other suggestion would be to watch the interview and "hightlights" on goaztecs.com - actually pretty good to hear what was actually said by coaches and players

It's really cool that you're traveling the US; I wish I was so lucky.
Anyway, there was a stretch there of four games where tv was nonexistent for out-of-towners. The good news is that going forward, all our remaining games will be televised, and you should be able to watch throughout your travels.
10/6 Hawaii, CBS Sports Network 10/13 Colorado State, Time Warner Cable SportsNet 10/20 @ Nevada, CBS Sports Network 10/27 UNLV, Time Warner Cable SportsNet 11/3 @ Boise, CBS Sports Network 11/10 Air Force, NBC Sports Network 11/24 @ Wyoming, Time Warner Cable SportsNet
Time Warner's regional sports channel launches today, and seeing as they have the exclusive rights to the Lakers' games, hopefully they strike a deal with DirecTV soon.
The Big East tv contract negotiations are still going on, and according to Sterk, they are going well. He hinted at the possibility of two different networks possibly being part of the deal when it's all said and done. The Big West just closed a deal with Fox giving them exclusive regional broadcast coverage rights, which means basketball will get good exposure for most games. 1st tier rights are still being discussed with ESPN, and SDSU will have the opportunity to sell their 3rd tier rights.
In terms of day-to-day coverage, ASR is, in my opinion, the best source for information and breakdowns. Unlike the UT, however, they keep their opinions to a minimum and just present you with factual information for the most part.
Good luck in your travels!

God bless you, Fred. And good luck trying to find those TV networks when you're out on the road. If you hit the right bar and they're willing to turn on a doozy like AFA at SDSU, maybe you'll be able to see the Aztecs. But Time Warner Cable SportsNet? WTF? (Next year will be much better. You can probably be on the road all season and not have too much difficulty seeing the Aztecs. Hopefully the team will be a better watch too.)

Fred, thanks for a brilliant illustration of the Aztec Diaspora's plight. Welcome to our world!

Fred- Count your blessings.......watching this year's version of Aztec FB is truly a test for anyone.....uness they enjoy underperforming, poorly coached, performances while playing one of the weakest schedules in recent memory.
