If I understand, the Big East Conference allows for 4 Out of Conference games? Is this correct?
So, if 4 games, I am guessing that SDSU is going to want to schedule as many "western" out of conference games as possible, given that the Big East games are going to be very eastern and texas focused, (especially with a zipper format).
Given the Big East will be an increase in difficulty, who do we anticipate SDSU trying to schedule in the Western region? I'm sure that UCLA and USC every year would be nice, but I doubt that happens, and too many Pac-12 teams might make for too difficult of a conference and out of conference schedule.
Do we anticipate SDSU scheduling a lot of MWC teams in OOC still? Will MWC still schedule SDSU? Maybe BYU? Idaho and New Mexico State? Who?

We have a home and home scheduled with Oregon State for next year and I believe 2015 and with ASU for 2017 and 2018. If the MWC treats us like they have BYU, they will refuse to schedule us for awhile although a Fresno fan said on the MWC board they are trying to renew annual games with us.
Word is USC didn't like the two close calls they had with us in the nineties and won't schedule us again. However, since we're UCLA's bitch, I suspect we will be playing the Bruins again in the future.
My preference would be to try to schedule Stanford. No way with their academics are they going to remain close to as good as they've been the last several years so if we schedule them now, we should be able to hit a downturn in the quality of their program by the time the games would be played.
Agree we should schedule NMSU as often as possible. With their going indy, they will need to try to find opponents and we need to play as many FBS patsies as possible. That does NOT include playing Idaho there. We simply suck at the Kibbie & Bits Quonset Hut. Just pay them to come to San Diego.

As a scheduling strategy (and focusing on Western games), I can see:
1 annual Pac-12 matchup 1 western patsie (Idaho or NM State or UTEP) 1 annual tougher non-BCS (Fresno, BYU, or SJSU) 1 annual FCS team (from Big Sky maybe)
This keeps travel costs down, and keeps the schedule decent, but provides some winnable games. The Big East will be a step up in competition. SDSU needs some winnable games, but in the Western Region.

I suspect we'll schedule Cal Poly again. They're always good enough to give us a game but unless our HC is named Chuck Long, not good enough to beat us. And notice that we never schedule UCD. That's a good thing. We have nothing to gain and everything to lose by playing them since you can bet UCLA would much rather have the Aggies join the Pac down the road than us.
BTW, assuming you're a newbie, welcome to the board.

Schedule Home & Home vs Pac-12 as is already done with ASU & Oregon St. Schedule Home & Home vs Fresno State (alternating home v road w/ above) Home vs FCS Home vs lower tier FBS (Idaho, NM State, etc.)
The home vs lower tier FBS can be flexible to set-up a premier game, but as a general strategy the list above is pretty realistic and would give us 3 home & 1 road OOC on a regular basis. This puts us in the best position possible before going into a tougher conference schedule that will already have plenty of travel.
