Katz was brought in as a "one hit wonder" in the hopes that he could fill the position for a year.
While he is not doing that poorly (based on the piss poor O-line pass protection), why not start getting Dingwell some serious reps in preparation for next year?
At this point, the way we are playing and being coached, we may as well start playing for next season. Dingwell is the obvious QB for next season, why not get him some playing time this season?

If there is a position besides running back which has NOT been a problem, it's quarterback. We still have a good chance to go bowling. If you've been to games, you've seen how raw Dingwell looks. So playing him would send any chance of bowl participation down the crapper.

QB has not been the problem at SDSU for a long time.

Do we really want to go to a bowl with a 6-6 or 7-5 record? Wouldn't it be better to position ourselves for next season?
Not knocking Katz, but for all intents and purposes, this season is over. Seven games left, two are unwinnable with this kind of effort. Time to look forward.

Let's just play all the redshirt freshman while we are at it. Like Herm said "you play to win the game!"

Dingwell is not the future The staff said all spring that Dingwell was neck and neck with Katz for the starting job. However, he's been on the field several times this year and from that, I agree. I think they'll just give the starting job to Dingwell next year but by about the fourth game, turn it over to Jeffries or Morin. I kinda hope it's Morin so the annoying father of the kid who didn't get recruited by SDSU has a meltdown.

I would like to see some option and Dingwell in the mix on that.I would like to see Katz roll out and more plays were he runs. I would not mind seeing Dingwell and katz in the3backfiled together on aplay or two. Not all the time but enough a game to make the other teams DC deal with it. Otherwise yous see the pciture that Fresano exposed eight in tghe box make Katz throw.

Dingwell has been primarily used in the wildcat, which has to be the most overrated formation in the history of football. And the formation is particularly useless the way we've used it since Dingwell never looks to throw the ball. If we're going to line up in that formation and run it all the time, we have several guys who are much faster and quicker who should be lining up back there.
That said, it's really unfair to criticize Ludwig. He's doing a good job. Sadly, half of the others on the staff are not, particularly the defensive coordinator.

Depending on your definition of "the box", I saw 10 and 11 in the box. Hang in there, Matt If there is a position besides running back which has NOT been a problem, it's quarterback. I think Jeffries will be our next star at QB (if he can put on a few lbs).

I don't think anyone is calling for Katz head yet (even after the 3 interceptions & short throws, high throws, long throws in the last game). Wouldn't have hurt to pull him for a bit to collect himself. Dingwell needs a little more action besides the wildcat so he can hone his game time skills. Coach said they were neck & neck in Fall camp so I doubt he is that raw.

Hmm. I agree that Dingwell needs some serious snaps, not to replace Katz but to be prudent in case he gets hurt and get him some experience for 2013. But for those ready to throw in the towel on 2012, we just finished the FIFTH game of the season. We're less than halfway through. Let's see how things play out.

I would like to see dingwell get more opportunity as well - but you don't throw the seniors under the bus. The team has been preaching since the hoke years (probably much longer) that we play for the seniors - no way you sell them out... what kind of message does that send to the team. put the best players on the field and do what you can to win.

SGF, I do not care about going to the new mexico bowl and getting beat by yet another WAC team. One of the numerous dumb stats schools can throw out there to try to put lipstick on a pig is how many bowl games they've played in. Trust me when I say if we go to the NM Bowl and lose that SDSU will use the former fact to publicize the program while ignoring the latter fact and the average casual fan won't know the difference.
