Well, it wasn't good! Okay, bye!
No, wait, we should say more. I'm still looking around for that pony under the tree, and guess what I've found? That last-second TD. The guys on the MTN say that last drive does not count and that Ryan didn't look good. No mention was made of his hand injury, though I agree that Ryan, and the whole team offense, really did not look good.
But that last TD does make a difference in my opinion. It's really good that they held on to make the score respectable, even though we know the game wasn't that close.
And the Aztecs lead in total yards and first downs. At least AFA did not gain 400-500 yards rushing. In fact, the Falcons were held to fewer than 300 total yards. Lots of Aztec fans are going to dismiss what I'm saying, but we must find positive points whenever possible.
The Aztecs appear to be father away form respectability than even the skeptics predicted. . . and that's not a happy thought. The question I have is, and I've posed this before, how are the Aztec coaches going to be able to recruit significantly better players with the team appearing to be no better than under Chuck Long and not even as good as Tom Craft's teams?
This makes the New Mexico State game absolutely crucial. Lose to them (which I think we will not) and we are facing a two or three win year. And that would mean that the turnaround will not begin, at the earliest, before 2010.

I think that the idea about recruiting better players is very important. In my opinion, we must get the kind of two and some three star kids that can be coached up to make our return to respectability a long slow process till we have a break out season that will attrack the tree and four star kids to the Mesa.
I was unable to see the game as I was at a JC volleyball tourney downtown. I will record the replay today and watch at my leasure.
