Are we going to wait for China and Russia to decide our fate?

They have no way to deliver the bomb to us yet. I still think that Israel will make a move on Iran. Possibly after our election in 2010 which will be the signal that Obama is a lamb duck and that he would not dare do anything to deter Israel.

Incredibly stupid question. Iran may have a warhead in the next few years. In the meantime, one of our boomers can drop 240 warheads on Iran. Do you really believe the Iranians are too stupid to understand that?

I will agree that talk of Iran nuking us is alarmist to say the least. However . . . and this is a very big "however". . . there are a number of ways in which a nuclear armed Iran can cause us significant harm. Come on, Bob, prove your perspicacity by naming a couple of those ways yourself. I know you can do! AzWm

Do you really believe the Iranians are too stupid to understand that? =Bob The problem, =Perfesser, is that their leaders do not care: Khomeini’s most revealing line, spoken on the airplane from France to Iran when he was about to seize power, came in answer to a question about what his rule would mean for Iran. Khomeini said, in effect, that he didn’t give a damn about Iran. He was leading all of Islam, not Iran, he said, and he would happily sacrifice everyone in Iran if he could accomplish the global triumph of Islam.Read the whole thing: 198.109.220.40/news/imprimis/archive/issue.asp?year=2008&month=10

Why do you assume those who've come after him believe the same thing. Khrushchev wrote in his memoirs that he was appalled by a meeting he had with Mao because he told Mao that at least a quarter of his population would be wiped out if he got into a nuke exchange with the U.S. and Mao blew it off by saying that three-quarters of the population would survive. Do you really think the current Chinese rulers have the same outlook? Do you really think the current Iranian rulers have the same view as Khomeini had? You're assuming a new and changed situation is old and unchanged and as Null-A teaches us, doing so is the first step to unsanity. Khomeini, like Mao, was rooted in the early 20 th Century. Too assume that a country as sophisticated as Iran is, mostly because a ton of people our age were educated in the West do not understand the stakes, is a bad assumption. Persian culture goes back at last 6,000 years and is therefore rather arrogant. But assuming that they are just a bunch of religious wing nuts fails to recognize the complexity of the Iranian political system and the opposing forces that exist within the country. =Bob

I believe the current Iranian rulers have the same outlook as Khomeini did. I don't feel comfortable letting you bet my life on an opposite take. Why don't you launch into one of your Perfessorial lectures on the Iranian political system, so we can all admire your decades old Mastur's Degree?
