Nice. Random band question for you Fem since I figure you're in the know...what is the future for the Maraching Aztecs as it relates to road game travel and more specifcially, funding? Seems like SJSU, Fresno, and UNLV can always send the band or giant pep band varieties to the Q, but unless its @ucla for us, the $$$ I'm assuming is keeping us from doing the same.
Is this a budget thing or a MA decision thing? Hopefully some of the trickle down impact of some BE dollars in the near future make their way to the band.

Sorry, no idea how the BE thing will affect the bands. For now, they are, as usual, severely underfunded.

Sending the GF to watch. She and her dad both were in an Ivy band -- you wouldn't believe what instrument she played!!- so she'll be fired up. I will be working, however. Have fun!

Hi Fem. Does the band have an effort to solicit previous band members for $$$ to help support the current bands efforts? What are those other schools doing that allows their efforts to be better funded then the marching Aztecs? I read a book once that says "ask and ye shall receive".

Well, that would definitely start with me but the time needed to devote to a project like is just a bit overwhelming.

I'm sure a lot of ppl would love to donate to the band if they only knew where to... $10s add up to $100s and $1000s. Nothing more powerful than the "volunteer" IMO.

Fembonne: In previous years the band went downtown for a noon time gig first gameweek. Anything happening that way this year?

Fembonne: In previous years the band went downtown for a noon time gig first gameweek. Anything happening that way this year? It wasn't just the band, the football team would go downtown too. And prior to basketball season, the men's and women's basketball teams would do the same. I'm pretty sure they've stopped doing that though. The idea of course was to 'drum' up interest in the sports programs. Not sure it was all that effective though.
