Try providing a present fact that actually matters. From top to bottom, the Aztecs are one of the best basketball teams in the U.S. From top to bottom, the BW is one of the worst basketball conferences in the U.S. The addition of SDSU, Boise, and Hawaii will definitely improve the top part of the conference, but the dead weight below that destroys the RPI of the conference. I am glad you were able to attend some Viejas games a few years ago, but we saw a remarkable change in the crowd sizes and excitement level in the last 2-3 years. The level of recruits coming to SDSU now is insane. Every game now sells out. BTW, we have a Division I arena, not a gym. I had a great time at both of my visits to Viejas SDSU, Hawaii, Boise (IF they come), Santa Barbara, Long Beach - that's a pretty solid top half. "we have a Division 1 arena, not a gym." true. Yet somehow... UCSB hosted North Carolina in '08. We have home games scheduled next year with LSU and Cal. Long Beach gets North Carolina at home this year. Hawaii has Illinois at home this year. even UC Irvine was able to draw LSU at home this year. So I guess I just have one question: can you draw any major names to Viejas?

The problem with this thread is calling our new conference the BW.

jdgaucho logic: - UCSB hoops is better than every team that didn't have a player drafted last year
not even close. i'm just pouring ice water on some people who need a cold dose of the truth. plus, they wanted the present so I provided them with a present fact. The overriding fact is the Aztecs were a 6 seed last year, return 4 starters and add 6 players any one of which would be UCSB's best recruit. SDSU's 3 new freshman recruitsSDSU's 3 transfersJames Johnson Dwayne Polee JJ O'Brien UCSB's new freshman recruits

That is not to say we can't develop players into something special (Orlando Johnson. Alan Williams?) but even I know when I've been beat

That is not to say we can't develop players into something special (Orlando Johnson. Alan Williams?) but even I know when I've been beat I agree 100%. Teams that haven't had top notch (rated) recruits often do quite well. SDSU last year is a great example. None of the players we had last year were rated as good as any of the 6 we are bringing in, and we had a #6 seed season. UCSB's recruiting class is solid and deep. New Mexico wishes they could exchange classes with you. Your class could be a base upon which you can build teams that have good success. Games are won on the court. I look forward to playing UCSB in the coming years.

I say we start this initiative to kick teams out of the BW by inviting the Zoobs, then immediately kicking them out.

So I guess I just have one question: can you draw any major names to Viejas? Its much harder to draw a high major team to a place with Viejas' reputation. There's at least a fair chance the Aztecs could beat any team in the country on our home court. North Carolina doesn't want to start their pre season with a loss to a mid major team from the inferior west coast. Im not even hating on you, but if you can pull a blue chip program to your gym in the pre season, they are considering you an easy win. Its more of a slap in the face than a compliment.

What happens when OJ racks up more then 50 dnps this year? It can't be a coincidence OJ ended up going to Indiana considering that their associate head coach is a UCSB alum. I don't think the number of dnps is gonna be that high, but if it is I will say such is the life of an NBA player and I will still be proud of him as a classmate and fellow Gaucho. Regardless of what school you came from, it is a great accomplishment to make it in the highest level of professional basketball.

I'm with you on that. Just not sure why you're trying to belittle our accomplishments, when youre team hasn't done jack $#!+ recently.

The guy OJ will be playing directly behind at the 2-guard position is George Hill, the guy Kawhi Leonard was basically traded for after last year's draft. And I agree, it is something to be proud of. Looks like he's had a fairly tough life so far, being raised by siblings. Not too much different than Kawhi's story. From wikipedia.... Orlando Johnson endured a rough childhood. His mother was murdered when he was a child, and the grandmother who took him in watched her house burn down several years later. Four more of Johnson's family members perished in that blaze, and his grandmother died when he was 11. Johnson's two older brothers unselfishly decided to raise him; they made sure he didn't get out of line, and eventually Johnson graduated from UC Santa Barbara. I'll be rooting for him to do well.

I agree! I'll leave the trash talking to our Vegas friends. I don't know, you've done pretty well lately. You know that you probably are putting your "Honorary Aztec" tee shirt in jeopardy.

Totally agree.
With the kicking game so weak on the team this year, it only makes sense for them to transfer to a BW school to focus on academics and strength traning.

Don't forget that we will regularly have Big East teams on our basketball schedule as a benefit of being a BE football member. We also regularly get PAC 10 teams into Viejas. It would be nice to get a NC or Duke, but it is a dangerous road trip coming to the Madhouse on the Mesa.
