As is the norm for recruits of ours who decommit for the PAC, Nick Begg has recieved his customary ratings bump from ESPN and is now a 3 star prospect with a 73 overall grade.

Further emperical evidence that the 'stars' received by current/future Aztecs are impacted by the current affiliation with the MWC.
This young man has yet to play a game as a Senior and his star is increased with a verbal to a Pac-12 school.
All of those that do not believe in the MWC 'factor' impacting recruit's number of stars need to be open to this most recent of many occurences.
Next year whence in the BE the same 'quality' recruits that are being pursued will receive a minimum 3-star by way of being recruited/verballed to a Big-6 conference versus a league that has no real television coverage/network.
Perception is a HUGE component in the ranking of some recruits (outside of those that come from major high school programs or those that have hit the major camps during the summer who are nearly automatic 4-star with a smaller number achieving 5-star status). This perception has impacted Aztec current players and verbals as the Aztecs are still in the MWC.
It would be really interesting to re-evaluate this perception once the current high school Juniors really start the recruiting process in the latter part of this year, early next year as to their 'stars' when receiving an offer and/or verballing to the Aztecs.

It's hilarious how ESPN pumped Begg's prospect rating one day before they released their Pac-12 preview and interviewed Todd Graham on-air.

Espee-n's coverage of Santa Marg at Brophy in Feenix last night probably had a lot to do with his de-committ. Since espee-n only hypes bcs schools, they must've demanded that he verbal to a pac-fudge team before espee-n to carry the game on TV. Hmm. A monopoly strong-arming someone to change their mind? Wow. That's old.

MWC to Big East is going to change this. SDSU's focus on 3rd place in the SoCal recruiting and begin hitting NV and HI hard. UH, UNLV, UNR, etc. won't get the recruits from SDSU except for the homesick kids. HI needs to get extra attention and a crushing of UH this season will help with recruiting HI and the other Poly islands. Would be smart to keep and eye open for some Aussie internationals too.

Aztec's need to get on the offensive with recruiting and stop crying about losing recruits. Start stealing from the MWC; between Reno, LV, Hawaii, Fresno, SJSU and NM State there are ten top recruits each year we could grab. It's Big East and the greatest city, easy sell. If the kid is homesick and wants to play near Mom and Dad then he wouldn't have worked out anyway.
Understandable to lose a recruit to a USC but why LA? I know PAC-12 but they're horrible and going to be even worse under Mora. Offer free bus rides to parents to come watch their kids play SDSU home games.

He looked like garbage vs. Brophy. Well, not garbage. But, not a Pac 12 guy. The other DE was a lot better.

There is a reason this is his first year starting. They called him an "uncut diamond in the rough" on the broadcast. Translation: Needs a lot of work and may or may not be a player at the next level. True D1 prospects shine in HS games, regardless of the competition. For RSM, Stanton (Nebraska), O'Brien (Washington) and Cracraft (Wazzu) were clear stand outs. For Brophy, Bruggman (Wazzu) and Allen (Undecided) were standouts as well, even if the box score told a different story. Not to say Begg can't or won't be a player, he just has a long way to go.

I didn't even realize he was in the game until the announcers started talking about him due to them talking about ASU. Not his performance. A standout that's not an O Lineman should get his name called all the time. That LB from Brophy did put himself on the recruiting map too.

For whatever reason - the recruits we "lose" to ASU all seem to flame out or flunk out (Tonga, Simmons, et al) anyway. I too saw the game. Dude looked slow and had bad feet to me. Anyhoo....I don't like BS'ers - and this guy committed to his Dream School. Then, bailed for Cal State Tempe. WTF? My dog just got accepted to ASU.

Rivals has also upgraded him to a 3 star 5.5 rating now. We should think about asking all of our recruits to switch their commits to another PAC school for 3 weeks so they can have all of their ratings bumped up, and then decommit back to us and see if the services lower their ratings.

Offer free bus rides to parents to come watch their kids play SDSU home games. We won't be offering you a job in the compliance dept anytime soon.
