I am a somewhat recent Aztec alumni - 2006 - computer science, and visited AztecTalk.com HEAVILY during basketball season. I am a pretty die hard college bball enthusiast. I was at a loss, when I visited AztecTalk.com today and discovered ruins at what used to be a great discussion forum for Aztec sports. AztecMesa is good, but all the ads and nonsense is annoying.
At any rate, I am the president of a cloud hosting startup here in San Diego, and willing to host the forums, assuming they don't use too much bandwidth (I pay for bandwidth) FREE OF CHARGE. Give a little back to my alumnus and almatur.
The forum software can stay, the moderators and admins will stay, just hosted on my servers with no ads.
Also, who owns the domain aztectalk.com? Would love to use that domain, or at least forward to aztecmesa.
Let me know, PM or reply.

Any way you can get rid of the Neo-Conservative crap that the likes of aztecwin/david/william post on here? If so, I would love to join your new board, and have a handful of others who will join too. Thanks. Go Aztecs! Yeah, he's not saying he's going to start a new board...just host this board on his servers. If you're going to trash people, you should probably not write something stupid in doing so.

The software isn't available for free, we'd really have to pay for the software. Proboards offers their services and softwaree for free, with the small banner ads at the top of the page as their only compensation.
AztecWilliam actually has his own web hosting service, but doesn't have the software for a BB, so we use proboards. He bought the domain for AztecMesa.com and forwarded the traffic here. A lot of time and money has already been put in to this site, so I think we're likely to stick with it.
But thanks for the offer.

There are quality free forum software (phpbb), but I can understand not wanting to move to a new one.

Hey guys. Admins - Can you export your data out of proboards, mainly just the user information and threads. If so, switching to a new and *better* forum software is trivial. There are a lot of superior forum software vendors. My favorite is: www.simplemachines.org/

Hey guys. Admins - Can you export your data out of proboards, mainly just the user information and threads? Unfortunately, no. Starting the board over yet again really isn't practical. (We've done it 3 times in the last 4 years...)

I realize that I am not a totally disinterested person in this discussion, but the fact is that Aztec fans have been through a number of forum changes over the past few years. Why change now? ProBoards is actually a pretty good provider and, as Erik pointed out, it's FREE.
The banner ads don't bother me personally, and so far I don't recall hearing from anyone who objects to them. As a matter of fact, there is a way to have a ProBoards operation without the ads, but I have never check out that option, assuming that it would cost money.
Erik and I are quite open to suggestions for improving AztecMesa. We can't promise that all suggestions will result in changes, but we will certainly give them serious consideration. There are, of course, some things we can do given the features of a ProBoards operation and there are other things we can't do.
We of course are pleased that so many fans have chosen to participate in AztecMesa.
