April 7-17 = .292 May 10-18 = .357 June 12-15 = .444 July 5-3 = .625 (so far)
The All Star Break finds the Padres 19 games below .500. Do you think they can finish the year strong (at least 71-91) ?
The main problem the Padres offense had was up the middle. They look a bunch better there now. Catcher, second base, and shortstop all look better now with the infusion of youngsters and Maybin in center field has brought some hope with his new approach. The offense may have to replace Headley and/or Quentin but are in better position to do that than the up the middle fixes seemed at the beginning of last month.
Starting Pitching is still a problem due to injuries but Cashner will be back soon and Stauffer may come back to help a little later. That could give us 4 decent starters, more than we have had in a while with starters dropping like flies.
I think we have a good chance to do that.
