...could we expect for this recruiting year? Last year, 4 DEs signed (Alex Barrett, Malcolm Jackson, Ben Moa, and Teddy Queen) and I think there's going to be a single senior in the defensive line this upcoming year (Frederick Trujillo). Taking in consideration that some DEs might be moved to different positions, how many more DEs should SDSU need to sign? I read that Luca Bruno has SDSU in his top 5 and Chauntez Jackson, Randy Ricks, Markeis Reed, etc also have offers.

Barrett and Jackson will likely play inside as both both are about 6-3 250-260 already.
That's the great thing about the DE's they're picking up. They all have good size and athleticism and can play multiple positions.
I dont think they have a set number of DEs they want. I think they'll be taking the six or so most athletic DL they can get and move them around wherever they need them.

Jackson is 270 pounds right now and the coaches are going to give him a chance to play this year.

Some wil moveinside tall ones that sdo not make defense will end up on offense.

Everyone is correct here. We need multiple DE's because we rotate so much and DE's are asked to run all over the field. Plus some of these DE's we are getting/have got will be moved to NT and OL. Furthermore, like I posited on the Begg thread, I think he ends up as an OT so I can see at least two more DE's being taken this year.
We should take as many tall, fast, athletic guys we can get who fit the mold of DE.

Agree with Fowl on Begg. Rocky has adopted Hoke's philosophy of choosing offensive linemen very carefully. They believe that if a big guy has played elsewhere in HS, say LB, but doesn't quite have the athleticism to play that position in college, you can bulk him up and moving him to the OL and he should be fine. However, if he's played the OL in HS but has problems with athleticism at the next level, you can't do anything with him and you've basically wasted a scholarship.
Since we brought in four definite O-linemen this year, I would therefore expect we wouldn't bring in more than one such player in the 2013 class.

I get tired of telling the Kyle Turley story, but I figure the regulars here know it already.

But Rouser was a OL that couldn't pack on the pounds and was too slow to be a TE. Turley was a skinny "DE" who became a hulking NFL tackle. Oldie Out

I'm sure we'll see some of the more slimmer and athletic DE's move to TE, OLB as a pass rush specialist and it would be nice if we can rotate these guys and not miss a beat, that's when we'll start seeing us winning any kind of championships

Gotta wonder if kids like Ricks aren't being led down the primrose path by one or two of the big boys.

Good programs bring in 4 to 5 Offensive Lineman every year. However, as SGF points out, you better hit on these guys, cuz they can't play anywhere else and take up schollies. By their Junior and Senior years you need as many as possible to be on the 2 deep roster.

I do recall Rouser, but don't rmember which regime recruited him. He may have been able to put on weight if he had a real S&C coach.
