Sterk can't have it both ways. He can't keep Gwynn and his losing ways because he is Tony Gwynn and then turn around and fire a non revenue coach for under performance. Not at a state college. Lawsuits will kill him.
The best thing is for Tony to retire.

Now, he may be gently persuaded to retire, or take another position which doesn't involve coaching. I wouldn't doubt that it's already been hinted at.
