I read that this morning. I live in Pasadena, and am a lifer Angeleno, so hearing this is kinda weird. Maranatha HS which is a private Xristian school, is not known for producing sought-after footballers. Except for Loyola in DTLA and Notre Dame in SFV, none of the private schools (religious or not) in the L.A. area are known for this. Most recruits from Pasadena H.S.s come out of Blair, Muir and Pasadena, the working class public schools.
However, I'm intrigued by this. M.H.S is only a 5k from my place. I'll mark a Friday in my calendar to check out minuteman football this fall. I'd like to see a potential Aztec in action.

i grew in arcadia which is just a few miles from Maranatha high...definitely wouldnt think a kid could come from there...i would think our JV squad would kill their varsity back 10 years ago. VERY small school

Notes: good feet, strong arm, compact delivery, athletic with good awareness in the pocket, he seems to have slight side arm throwing motion, holds the ball lower than shoulder level, nice touch on his passes.
Oldie Out

Looks like Rocky learned his lesson from UNM and is subscribing to the one QB/year plan.

From maxpreps.com, in the 2011-12 season, Elffers was 129/201 for 2,029 yards with 22 TDs and 7 INTs. Also rushed 63 times for 171 yards and 8 TDs

As far as LA privates, you forgot to mention Crespi, St. Bonnies and Oaks Christian although they do have a tendancy to duck top teams. OC has better private schools: Mater Die, its recent daddy, Servite, Orange Lutheran and Santa Marijuana. Back to the QB. As far as lower division CIF Southern Section players, El Toro's Conner Manning is a lot better. He crushed Matt Barkley's OC passing record. Conner is playing in the Pac 5 next year as ET moves up divisions so he will be going against the best of the best in So Cal next season. Last year he was First Team All California D2 QB and OC offensive Player of the Year throwing for more than 4,219 (650 more than Barkley). yards, 41 TDs and only 8 INTs. El Toro also had a 1,000 yard rusher so it's not like his offense was one-dimensional.

Same number of INTs with 8, but he was 327-527 and 4,219 yards and 41 TDs against much better competition.

Plus Manning was on a team where they threw more. A ton more. ;D That's what makes Manning's 8 Ints even more impressive. Two of them came in the CIF final in the 2nd half. ET did also have an effective rushing attack. Their leading rusher had 1,542 yards and 29 TDs. Hell, I wish the Aztecs had this effective of an offense.

City area (i.e. Pasadena, Culver City, North Hollywood etc.) The majority of L.A. privates are not known for producing DI football players.

MD is a private school in OC. St. Bosco is in Bellflower. Though, in L.A. county, it's perceived as light years away. It gets associated more with LBC (which is still L.A county) but also seen as "out of L.A."

Still, Maranatha doesn't exactly play at a level of Mater Dei in Santa Ana, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame near my house or Oaks Christian in Agoura Hills. Those private faith-based schools all play against a measurably higher level of competition. Might be good for us, though. Kids who put up the kind of numbers Elffers has against that level of competition aren't going to seriously consider SDSU.

They are Ventura County schools Not only that but Crespi is just ten minutes down the 101 from S.O. Notre Dame which is a much bigger school and produces a lot more FBS talent, QB Dane Crist, for example.
