Despite the word from Rivals, lots of guys closer to the situation have stated he doesn't have an offer.
That being said, as many predicted Anthony January was going to blow up this year and he did.

I just really hope we land him. I trust Fish's judgment and character if we did find a way to bring him in, and he's just a fantastic player.

He would come in and play about 15 mins as a backup as a freshman on a top 10 team. As a soph he would step right in after JF forgoes his senior season to play in the NBA. Perfect fit lets make it happen.

As much as JF has improved and is the star of this team, he is a 4 year guy, imo. Bring in January in 2012 and Hamilton in 2013!

Wonder if ,the article in the UT today,(CBSSports.com) that Shabazz Muhammad may have financial dealings that could compromise his amateur status , may get more dominoes to fall with the other recruits who have not made a commitment. Thoughts out there UNLV was saving scholarship for him or Bennett, if not would they shift to January or Pelle

If he is ever going to get a shot at the next level, it's definitely not coming any time soon. Now, in the spirit of staying on topic, I, like a lot of others, would love for us to find a way to get January on this team next year.

The way we are talking about this kid, it seems he is better than Shepard.

He gets trapped in corners, makes bad passes, takes bad shots, and gets easily confused when the defense throws something new at him. He has the physical gifts but not nearly the basketball player that Shepard is, not even on offense. I like January. He is a kid with physical abilities that, if coached right, could blossom into a fantastic player. But right now, he is not on the same level as Shepard.

I assume you haven't seen him this year, January has really improved his decision making and his demoner on the court, he still has maturity and great questions off the court. January though is not the offensive player of Shepard because of Shepard's passing and ballhandling, though he has a much better mid range game and is a bit more explosive. A scout that I talked to recently compared January to Alonzo Gee.

I just like how this thread blew up because ESPN changed the ranking from 3 stars to 4. When January was a 3 star prospect he would have been a nice bonus. Now the Aztecs HAVE to get him.

I wouldn't trip on the ratings, it has to be a nice "fit" both ways (to the program and to the player). If there are any red flags, the marriage wouldn't happen.

People like me saw highlights of him months ago and saw that he was a great player. This isn't a brand new discussion, it's just picked up because we have Shep and so all the focus is essentially on January.

Not to mention his latest highlight videos show a lot more of his non-dunking game and how he's progressed. That point along with it looking like we might not be after Pelle anymore opens it up to January a bit more. If I had a choice between the 2, I wanted Pelle as he was more of a need. However, January would be a very good pickup as well(if its even possible-we'll see).

It would have been nice to have an athletic freak of a big here, but we'll be fine with DS, Sky rodrigo, and Johnson.
