Was at the Pennant today and they had the Mission Bay/Cathedral Game on, right along side the Aztec/TCU game. Got to be true to your school!

The Vista/Torrey Pines game was really good for about 2 1/2 quarters, then TP took over. Vista couldn't get into the lane to get shots off as TP's defense really played great. TP, on the other hand, got hot with their shooting and erased a 5 point Vista halftime lead en route to a 14 point win.
Vista just went ice cold on their shooting in the 2nd half. Part of that was the TP defense, part of it was just missing shots. Garrett Galvin was the high scorer for the Falcons, and he ended up looking like a better player than the more heralded Joe Rahon. Galvin hardly missed a shot all night. Rahon made a lot of key shots as well and did a fairly good job as point guard, but it was Galvin who was the (nearly) unstoppable scoring machine.

Galvin is an underrated player. Vista had no answer for him whatsoever. Fletcher forced a lot of shots that got them into trouble in transition.

I wonder whether he is getting college offers. As for Fletcher, you may be underestimating him. The guy is a very good point guard. He actually scored a lot of points last night. I would by no means point to him as the reason why Vista lost. I would also suggest that Sedrick Childress is someone whom some college somewhere might want to think about recruiting. He is a very solid player. I make these comments as someone who has seen the Panthers play at least 10 games this year, so I know what I'm talking about. AzWm

Galvin, last I heard, was going Ivy League. Very smart kid and underrated athleticism. Wasn't saying Fletcher was to blame for the loss, just that I think he tried to do a little too much in the second half. Childress is a solid guy, like his three point shot. Torrey's just well-coached and they capitalize on mistakes, and they don't miss free throws, which makes them very dangerous.

Wasn't saying Fletcher was to blame for the loss, just that I think he tried to do a little too much in the second half. I wouldn't say that was something he had a lot of choice on. The Torrey Pines defense really kept Vista from getting into the lane forcing Fletcher, Childress, and the other guys to try shots when they didn't have position and weren't open. It was a great 2nd half performance both on offense and defense by TP. That was one of the things that kept Vista from climbing back into the game - missed free throws. Patrick Johnson is a great defensive player, and he's ok when shooting inside, but outside of 4 feet his accuracy goes way down. He got fouled a couple times and couldn't hit a free throw. Even Fletcher missed a couple free throws in the 2nd half (uncharacteristic for him). Vista just ran into a team that got hot when they had to. So Vista came up short in the championship games in both football AND basketball. But how many schools have their teams reach the finals in both sports in the same school year? Not many. So while it was a pair of disappointing championship games for Vista it was a great year anyway. Neither team (football or basketball) was supposed to be able to get to the championship game, but they both did it.
