There are a few scenarios here, and they are all risky. We may find ourselves in a s#!++y position (and we'll have to look in the mirror when passing out the blame)
1) Stay in the MWC. Its still a better conference than the WAC and may still be able to lure some credible schools. Or not and the MWC dies.
2) Move back to the WAC. Boise may end up staying, Unlv may move, and we keep our travel primarily in the west. However, we also align ourselves in a conference with SJSU, Idaho, NMSU et al.
3) Go independent. Move all other sports to Big West. Now before you laugh, I think we could actually pull this off- if we had any kind of competitive football program. San Diego is a destination- thats the thing we got going for us. People want to travel here. Why not watch their football team while here.

If BYU leaves, it tells me that there are changes and movement in other conferences. Probably impacts TCU also.
SDSU's options are limited. It isn't likely a BCS conference is chasing them and independent isn't really an option.
Stay in place and hope a major school such as Kansas and KState are looking for a home.
This whole scenario is a huge supposition.

Where is the "have a party" option? BYU can kiss my ass. If they want to leave, have at it. Let's just beat who we line up against.

We need to stay in the MWC. We have no leverage given the futility that was the past decade. The MWC will be a weaker conference when the smoke has cleared, but we will still have a conference. Forget AQ status. We need to keep our home. Hopefully the MWC can lure a few quality replacements. That $5 million buyout for any WAC team leaving the conference is the only thing stopping Fresno State and Nevada from accepting a MWC invite. Those were the two I wanted all along. Save the Fresneck references. Some Conference USA are a possibility.
Bottom line, The Borg has handled their business... for quite some time... as in decades. Hats off to them, but I still can't stand them. I remember when BYU's eventual 1984 National Championship team used our facilities to practice for their game vs. Michigan. I remember walking across the grass field behind the baseball field as the entire BYU team trotted out to the practice field that particular day. I know it would not have been too smart, but I had to fight the urge to sucker-punch one of them. Lol. True story. Aztec For Life!

Stay. Will still be a better FB conferenc than the Borg-less WAC, and M&WBB will be better too.

But we can't stay with only 8 teams. We have to get to 10 and given that football will likely determine the team we add .. pickens are very slim. It probably has to be conf usa (smu, houston, utep) or we are looking at who ... cal poly, uc davis, montana?

What happens if byu goes indy, Boise stays WAC, and TCU looks east? That's been my question. I, unfortunately, can all of the other schools having to look out for themselves. I would think TCU would have to consider options. Why should BSU want to be a part of what now appears to be an unstable conference? Would Air Force consider leaving? We, at one time, considered the WAC with distain. It may be our new home ultimately. If BYU goes, and it sounds like they are, I would be in no big hurry to schedule them. Nor would I want them back should things not work out for them.

I hate to say it, because I really liked what we had going with the MWC, but I'm one of the 2 votes that went "Independent". Joining the WAC is a slow death. The MWC will now become pretty much "WAC-Plus". Of the three options, I think the 3rd is the only one that gives at least an opportunity to somehow craft something that makes us sustainable and successful going forward. It's a risk -- a big one. But I'd rather give it a stab than stay on the MWC-Titanic or saddle ourselves with WAC mediocrity.

MWC is headed into the crapper. All options are looking bad.

Stay and keep your eyes open for better options over the next couple of years.
