This one might be a little ugly. Usually the first game of the year brings a little spike in attendance- especially from the students. But I'm not so sure about this year- especially due to who we're playing. I know I'm gonna miss it , so thats one less. 20K hopefully.

Have we/can we just give away tickets to youth organizations? I know about Hoke's heros and the $5 tickets for that game but why don't we give two tickets to every pop warner player in the county if we aren't going to draw more than 20k? Granted our expenses would likely rise due to additional security staff etc but concessions, parking, and additional ticket sales for siblings/parents would likely rise enough to offset those costs.
Watching ESPN's 30 for 30 on the U many of the early studs at Miami said they got their first taste of Cane football when Burger King would run a promotion for $1 tickets when you purchased a meal. That was back pre-Schnellenberger when they were terrible and attendence was weak.
This would get more people to the game and start creating in-roads with local youngsters which might pay dividends down the road. Letting unsold ticket inventory got to waste is a mistake IMO.

Alumni are being offered 2 free tickets so hopefully that will help with attendance. This is news to me. I'm a season ticket holder (3 seats). Do I also get two free tickets? Also, I think the idea of giving tickets to Pop Warner or some other deserving group is excellent. We desperately need a big crowd to kick off the season. I'll guess that about 25,000 should be close to the actual count. One more thing. The fact that we are speculating that attendance will be in the low 20s (or worse) tells us how much we need to get this program in gear. Yes, it may take a couple more years for Hoke to recruit his way to 8 and 9 wins seasons, but man, meanwhile this program is dying on the vine for lack of fans at the games. A 3-1 start, with the loss being a close one at Mizzou, would help a lot. AzWm

I'm hopefull for about 25k. I don't think you can really expect more than that. There's usually a decent showing of students for the first game. If it's exciting and the team is sharp we might be able to get some of them to be repeat customers. If the team looks sluggish and sloppy and the game is boring, they'll have the "same old Aztecs" attitude.
The game I worry about is the USU game. If we don't trounce NSU and NMSU and have a good showing against Misery, that game could be a ghost town (15k) but if we do I'd expect another 25k game.
Now if we get off to the start we feel we should get off to...I think we can get close to 30k for the AFA game.

By the second quarter, yes. However, I bet there will be 5K less at kickoff, down to 17K again by the end of the third quarter and then down to 12K by the end of the game. BTW, one thing that will hold down attendance is that given geography and their FCS status, Nicholls State figures to bring a "crowd" of not more than a few hundred. (No knock on them, just sayin'.)
