Yeah, OK, I'm not quite feeling it JUST yet to put out the MWC Power Rankings.
But that doesn't mean my mind isn't starting to leak out in that direction. In fact, the thought of college football around the corner had me thinking of the mighty SDSU Marching Aztecs (Who, I must say, have significantly upped their game since I grabbed my degree in 1990).
What popped into my mind about them? I don't know. Literally. I don't know what it's called -- but for argument's sake, I'll just call it "The Drum Solo". It's very catchy, and they play it at least a couple of times each game. Even though it's just the drummers performing, a lot of the band members join in with the cheerleaders to, uhhhhh, shall we say "grind" at certain portions of it.
So Question #1 is: What is it called?
Question #2 is: Why don't they break that thing out at the hoops games, too? It's awesome, and I'm sure the much-larger and rowdier student section at hoops games would definitely welcome the chance to "grind along"...

P.S. For sake of identification, it's three repetitive drum rolls, punctuted by a big "S.D.S.U Aztecs Fight!", and then repeated a couple of times.

There are several cadences that the drumline does. If I had to guess, I would say that you are talking about "Fried Chicken." Although I've never noticed the cheerleaders doing anything for that one. I know they have a routines to "Dig" and "S."
Actually come to think of it, I bet you are talking about "S."
"S, S, we got your S we got your S. D, D, we got your D we got your D. S, S, we got your S we got your S. U, U, we got your U we got your U. S. D. S. U. Aztecs Fight!"

I think you've probably nailed it, cause I've got the tune in my head right now, and I can certainly put those lyrics to it. So... How come it's a no-show at... The Show??

My wife was the SDSU Cheer manager back in the early '90's and she'll break that out every now and again!

The Bylaws, as well as the Covenants, Conditions & Restrictions (Section 23.2(a), when you signed on to AztecMesa.com clearly state that if your wife is a former cheerleader and/or instructor, you must provide video or photos for your fellow... Mesa-nauts. Please post forthwith (Preferably "The Grind" video!!) ;D
