Saw him on NFL Network tonight for Seattle vs. Titans.
He had a good period of making some plays and got some positive comments from the guys on t.v.
Some good stops, forced a holding call on the Titans when he made a move up the middle, recovered a fumble.
Good for him. Hope he makes the team and an impact, as this could be his last chance in the NFL.
Good luck, Matt. Aztec for life.

Lots of people thought he made a mistake when he left after his junior year. Lots of people were wrong.

Lots of people thought he made a mistake when he left after his junior year. Lots of people were wrong. On the other hand, maybe not. Remember what Azthetic said in this post . . . Hope he makes the team and an impact, as this could be his last chance in the NFL.If this is his last chance and it doesn't work out, some may conclude that he would have been better off spendng another year in college football. Or perhaps not. In any event, his ultimate fate in pro ball has not yet been decided. AzWm

Considering he was our lowest drafted defensive player since who knows when I think he made a pretty wise choice. It would have been next to impossible for him to improve his draft position so really what would have been the point to returning? Considering who was coaching here at the time I'm pretty sure he learned more about being a professional football player his rookie year with the Eagles as opposed to another year under Craft. Another case of someone talking out of their Ass. Get your facts straight. He was coached by Andy Buh, a very good position coach.

The linebacker coach in Philly McCoy's rookie year was Steve Spagnuolo who is now an NFL head coach. Their defensive coordinator at the time was Jim Johnson, considered by many one of the top defensive coordinators the NFL has ever seen. But I'm sure Matt would have learned more under Buh's tutalege. Considering he was our lowest drafted defensive player since who knows when I think he made a pretty wise choice. You said that he was "...under Craft."
FYI, being a good Head Coach or Defensive Coordinator doesn't necessarily mean you are good at teaching and developing the skills necessary for success at specific positions.
So yeah, he quite possibly could have learned more about playing the position of Linebacker under Buh.

He blossomed under Kaumeyer and Buh. Get your facts straight.

You Craft honks sure are wound tight. My intention was not to denigrate Coach Craft, I've been on Aztec boards a long time & I've never gone out of my way to attack Coach Craft. My initial post was in regards to the many posters who criticized McCoy when he initally left school early. Most posters thought he wasn't ready for the NFL & leaving school early was a huge mistake. When he went in the 2nd round I felt he proved those doubters wrong. I don't think I'm knocking Coach Craft or his staff when I say players get better and more extensive coaching in the NFL. I don't think a current player would be better off spending a year under Hoke & co. as opposed to geting coached by the best football coaches in the world in the NFL (and I'm a huge hoke fan). But I'm sure you'll explain to me how I'm wrong and how another year with Coach Buh & Matt would have been a 10 time all-pro and signed 100 million dollars in contract money.

Since it's pretty dang obvious that alot of the time a college player will probably get better instruction at the pro level, it did seem that you went out of the your way to rip Craft and his coaches. If you say that it wasn't your intention to rip Craft, then OK.

For what it's worth, I also believe that McCoy probably made the right decision.

Didn't McCoy and/or his pops denigrate Craft on the way out, or am I remembering that wrong?

Didn't McCoy and/or his pops denigrate Craft on the way out, or am I remembering that wrong? As Roger Clemens might put it, I think you're misremembering. Even if he did, it means nothing since as a head coach anywhere, you'll never please everyone. Drivel.
