San Diego State is in its 87th year of playing college football. The divisional system did not start until 1937, when the Aztecs found themselves in the lower have of a two tier system (University Division= large schools; College Division= small schools). Beginning in 1969, the Aztecs were promoted to the higher University Division, and have been at the highest level since then.
Here's the deal; S.D.S.U. has been at the highest level of NCAA football for 41 years (2008 was the Aztecs 40th year). As of 2012, the Aztecs will have played college football for slightly more than the 50% of the program's existence.
Very interesting, don't you think? Oh, you don't?
