One thing you may be thinking of is the concept of ONE nation, ONE people, ONE shared vision of what makes the country great and worth defending. But, of course, that kind of thinking is considered, by some at least, to be, if not downright dangerous, at least a bit naive and passe. (I can't help but comment on the immense talent that was Orson Welles . . . yes, his surname was not identical to that of Herbert George Wells. It's commonplace to say that so-and-so is or was "one of a kind." In the case of Welles, that statement is nothing short of the absolute truth.) AzWm

What do you mean by ONE people? What do you mean by ONE shared vision? What would the components be? What is your proposed shared vision? Based on your answers to the above exactly when in our countries history do you consider us having ONE people and ONE shared vision?

Moving and a good history lesson.
The most current comment spoiled it for me;
I am getting really tired of the right wing-nuts out there.

Based on your answers to the above exactly when in our countries history do you consider us having ONE people and ONE shared vision? Very well stated. There is no "ONE shared vision of what makes this country great and worth defending". Our Founding Fathers never considered the concept of "ONE shared vision". They recognized that reasonable people could disagree and created a government that mediates between the various visions. I'm sorry, Will, but Triple-A is quite correct on this one. Demanding a shared vision goes against everything you claim to support as a Libertarian. =Bob
