Wow. Looks like the Aztecs will be one of only 3 losses suffered by the Falcons this season. Not. AFA could have as many as 6. As for SDSU, they almost got it right. AndreAztec has it 2-2 OOC, 3-5 MWC. 5-7 and ANOTHER step- in the right direction. Andre will be interested to note that Hayes has Troy Calhoun winning Coach of the Year for guiding AFA to a 9-3 season despite their entirely new O-line. (Actually, two of the five have combined for like nine starts the last two years.) I hope we crush AFA. They have some pretty arrogant fans on the MWC board.

There are a few things at play here, I forget the exact stat, but we don't beat teams that finish with winning records (I think Utah was the last team with a winning record we beat and that was craft)
We lose on the road to wac teams and generally beat them at home.
New Mexico state is really bad, so I think we might break the losing on the road to teams not named CSU or UNLV.

Yea, I find them rather annoying seeing as they are at best at the high end of mediocre and the pat on the back for choosing to go to a service academy gets old.

Wow! I knew their defense was bad last year but it looks even worse when you have the numbers in front of you. In '08 under Guy, this is how their defensive numbers looked... PPG 34.7 Rushing Y/A 4.47 Yards 1923 Passer Rtg 137.70 Yards 3013 Offense Y/P 5.8 Sacks 18 Ints 12 In '09 under Anderson, this is how their defensive numbers looked... PPG 34 Rushing Y/A 5.29 Yards 2466 Passer Rtg 136.22 Yards 2995 Offense Y/P 6.4 Sacks 17 Ints 12 Not much improvement at all and it actually got worse in a few areas. Awful to be sure. However, consider comparative scores from last year with 3-pt. adjustment for us on the latter two. @ Utah: We lost by 31, they lost by 18 = +13 for them @ Idaho: We lost by 14, they won by 3 = +17 for them @ BYU for them: 18 pt. loss, home to the Borg for us: 10 pt. loss = +5 for us @ NMSU for them: 3 pt. loss, home to NMSU for us: 17 pt. win = +17 for us That's +8 for them, or two points per game better, and it should also be kept in mind that our 17-point win over NMSU is a bit misleading in the sense we were up by only 7 until late in the fourth quarter. Edit: My guess is at kickoff, we will be only about -4 in Vegas. Your guess?

We should expect 3-1 non-conference this year. Could they lose either to NM St. or Utah St? Yes, just as we lost to winless UNLV back in the 90s. Could happen but shouldn't.
The bottom line is that SDSU must beat the teams they should beat, If this team can't beat USU or NM St, how in hell are they expected to beat Wyoming or Air Force, much less TCU, etc.?
It's about time for this team to show signs of life.

Until we have facts (measured in W's), we have no argument against predictions of failure. When we call a 4-8 season an "improvement" - we've got a long way to go. Granted, not as long of a climb as we used to have, but we're nowhere near the summit on this climb, Kemosabe...

They could not put Wyo and UNLV away because of it, games against NM St was closer that they should have been, and Ryan Lindley not throwing critical picks against AF. If they can run the ball, where looking at a successful year.

And we missed a pair of mid 30 yard field goals in those games, so instead of hanging points and kicking off, we gave them the ball in decent to good field position. Being able to get a first down and/or making a gimme field goal equals 2 wins.

The Sporting News doesn't do any serious evaluations, that would require too many man hours. They just look at what happened a year before and what the general tradition is and go by that. They are not for instance aware of how lax things got under Long and Craft, and how our strength and conditioning program sunk to the level of Division III. They certainly don't go to practice ,and see an intense businesslike atmosphere or a slack cavalier one. Therefore they have no idea of what's really going on. I watched the Mountain West previews last night for San Diego State it was essentially horrible. They had Todd Christiansen complete with a bandage on his neck, a plaid coat with a striped tie, and he looked about 105 years old,(Toddy go back to the LDS missionary ensemble white shirt black tie,you look like a thrift shop mannequin) and the two main guys neither of whom I know by name. One of them at it black guy is pretty sharp the other guy is an idiot. The idiot went on about how tough guys are in Wyoming as opposed to California and other such tripe. Only a middle-class white guy could think that, I grew up in some neighborhoods in the Gardena ,Compton area where Godzilla would get mugged. I think I was 15 before I learned that my name wasn't really "Haole boy come here I kick your ass" Laramie is a swinging town, there is a lot to do,Alcoholism.hibernating Bear molestation, tobacco spitting competitions, and Miss Bowlegged Cowgirl contest.
At least theydid mention the fact that we're going into our second year under Coach Hoke, and therefore should improve,.The dork did not mention the strength and conditioning program which I think is going to be the key to our success this year. There is no question in my mind that barring disastrous injuries the Aztecs will win seven or more games. First of all the offense of line last year was not only learning a new system but was just starting to get into good physical shape they weren't there yet. It takes awhile for an offensive line to come together. So we had the combined situation of not being completely physically prepared because Coach Wellman only had them for nine months, and the confusion and lack of cohesion that comes with the new system.
Therefore I expect a substantial improvement in their performance this year. The Aztecs have some On the offense of line they are reasonably athletic and approved in strength and the average about six four and for 300 pounds. Last year Walter Kazee average 7 yards a carry even under those circumstances. Now I think both Ruffin and Hillman added an extra dimension that we haven't had since George Jones, that is at running back who break it all the way. That is a big worry to defense of coordinator, and I'm hoping in some of these early games kill men are Ruffin break a few long runs to put the fear of God in defense of coordinators when they think about blitzing.
I think the offense will be the most explosive we have seen barring injuries, in the last 20 years, I believe they will score over 40 points a game. That leaves the defense and the special teams I see improvement in both. This is based both on the experience of playing together a year an infusion of some very talented athletes and the difference in conditioning. From what I can tell these guys believe in themselves, and their a lot physically tougher. We would not have lost those four games last year at the end if both Vincent Browne and DiMarco Sampson had been healthy, we might not have won them all but we would've won at least one. and likely two.I'm not at all worried about Utah State or New Mexico State they'll have to score over 50 points to beat us and it ain't going to happen.
For the first time in a long time we have are five athletic cornerbacks, although a couple of them are young. We have a good defensive line, excellent linebackers, and solid safetys as well Rocky Long's defense is a pain in the ass for offenses and always drives BYU nuts. So my only real concern is how long coach will be here, we will win seven of more games this year, and definitely challenge for the title next year. If I did not have to leave town so much this year I would renew my season tickets, which I gave it up in 2006 after 15 years. Next year provided I'm still on earth which is always not guaranteed, I will definitely get season tickets. After all I've been through with this program and President Weber it tells you I'm really excited about the change.
I have heard nothing but the highest praises of Brady from his peers, I know coach Delgado and coach Gilbert and many others think e highly of him both as a person and as a football Coach. Rocky Long is without a doubt one of the best defense in court leaders in the country and Al Borges's is an outstanding offense of mind. Furthermore, I have come to understand that the mind prediction for December 21, 2012 is that on that day football world as it is known will change forever at San Diego State University fighting Aztecs will climb to number one in both polls.

I thought Tod Christensen looked ill. He has lost weight and looks gaunt. That bandage on the neck has been with him all this week.
