First come, first serve. There are not a lot of teams that are going to hold out for one guy if some other high caliber talent is interested.
I would love to see Pelle play for SDSU, but like others have said, he is considered high risk because he may never qualify or may be one and done.

twitter.com/#!/TheRecruitScoop/status/156534339524501504 TIFWIW, but this recruiting guy says Norvel out of the running for UNLV. And they can get all the five star recruits they want, as long as the fish gets his three and four stars to beat down the rebs consistently i'm alright with the motivated looked-overs. That being said, Norvel, come on down...

This is only good news IF Fisher and co. somwhow find a way to land Pelle. Which hopefully happens. That is the only way to counter this recent move by the Rebs.
Don't get me wrong, Johnson would potentially be a good get for the Aztecs, but does not really come anywhere near the answer to the Rebs landing someone of the caliber of Birch.
If Pelle has any sort of common sense whatsoever, I believe he would commit to SDSU. Not only from the fact that he would be a secondary player on UNLV's roster, but also from a motivational factor with UNLV essentially saying that he was purely a backup option for them if they did not land Birch. Pretty much like second fiddle so to speak.
Come on, Pelle. Commit to SDSU and let the 2012-2013 battle for MWC supremacy commence!
Have to admit, UNLV's roster is looking pretty damn loaded come next season. SDSU has to counter this by landing Pelle to even out the odds, imo.

We lose Shelton and Green but replace them with O'Brien, Polee, Shringley and Spencer. We will be fine, should even be the favorites next year. Adding Pelle and/or Johnson will solidify that.

This is only good news IF Fisher and co. somwhow find a way to land Pelle. ...AND he qualifies and actually suits up. I'd sign both Pelle & Johnson. Yeah, I know, that means no Shepard. But I'd either sign Johnson and save the space for Shepard (forgoing a chance at Pelle) or sign Johnson & Pelle both and skip a chance at Shepard. I just think the worse thing would be to sign Pelle, skip over Johnson, and then miss out on Shepard..... and then have Pelle not qualify.

I don't get it?!?!?! I understand that Fisher is doing the best he can and he's doing a great job, but how does UNLV get such great recruits right now? Katin Reinhardt a 4* recruit has already committed, now Birch 5*, and they "supposedly" are in the mix to get Bennett and Muhammad 5* recruits. This is the same UNLV team we have beaten for the past few years. The same UNLV that hasn't done much and have a rookie coach. I would think that our sweet 16 run last year would have opened more doors for 5* recruits than they would.

is Dave Rice following Tark's blueprint in recruiting and running the same type of program? I think it's more the style and the young staff, but it's certainly in the back of my mind

aztectruth and hoobs,
I hear what the both of you are saying and I agree. I too like the current construction of the aztec's roster for next season and beyond. I also believe this a perennial NCAA tournament team for the next few year's with the recent recruits/transfers for next season In Spencer, Shrigley, Polle, O'brien ect... No real question there.
I also agree that they should sign Johnson if given the oportunity and not paly the wait and see game with Pelle in the unfortunate event he does not commit here. It would be disaterous to lose out on both Johnson and Pelle just by standing pat and waiting to see what Pelle decides to do.
However, with that said, I'm really hoping they do ending up getting Pelle to commit here, even if they do sing Johnson. Getting a top ranked C and tremendous shot blocker of Pelle's caliber would potentially propel the Aztecs to an eventual Elite 8/Final Four contender. A front court of Polle, Pelle, O'brien and a soild back court of Thames and an emerging Chase Tapley who should really be ready to explode in his senior campaign would be as good and as deep as of a team as I ever here. Even(dare I say) better than last year's? Not to mention a very deep bench with the like's of Rahon, J.Franklin, Shrigley, Spencer, Stephens, Williams ect...
Like the both of you said, here's to hoping they land both Pelle and Johnson. With those guys in the fold, I could definetly see a potential Elite 8/Final 4 apperance.

I don't usually like to bring things like this up, but if the Aztecs were to land Johnson and Pelle, and feasibly are still in the mix for Shepherd...is it possible we don't see Alec Williams or LaBradford next season?

Hopefully they can enroll Johnson within a week and then get Pelle or/and Shepard in the late period. They would be extremely tough with such a crop of recruits, including Shrigley and Spencer, joining Polee and O'Brien, along with the big four guards Tapley, Thames, Rahon and Jamaal Franklin, not to mention Stephens, Williams and LBF.

Yep. I agree, Pete. If they were able to land both Johnson and Pelle, I would have to say that would be as talented and as deep as a B-ball roster that I have ever seen on the Mesa. Even more so than last year's squad. And that, obviously, is saying a lot. Here's to hoping Fisher and co. can help make the dream a reality Talk about a loaded squad

I think Hutson (thru Rice) goes after a different kind of player that Bland (thru Fisher) does. Also don't forget, UNLV will use the BW card as a negative in their recruiting. It's all about schemes anyway, Rice against Fisher. What a team does in the Big Dance is more important than who signed the better players.

Pelle would fit in perfect at the sdsu better know as the gateway to Tijuana" Very ghetto and not to smart. Just like Billy White = total thug. Vegas couldn't wait to see him leave.
Only need two stars recruits to compete in big west though so you guys should be fine.

Oh the irony, rebel clown.
Here's what I mean by ironic just in case you're too slow to grasp it, ok?
IF we were so irrelevant(which your screen name suggests) why even bother posting on an AZTEC board? I mean, do you not understand the contridiction???
Now, run along back to your own board and stop wasting precious bandwidth over here. Comprende?

Hey Rebel scum,
You know what's LOL? UNLV is still in a dying conference. It's just a matter of time before recruits realize that the conference is dying as well as the money supporting your athletics department.

LOL! What a moron.
BTW, did you enjoy seeing Billy White continuously bitch slap your squad while he was here? Or especially on your home floor in the MWC tournament the last few year's. Most specifically the last two year's to win the MWC tournament.
You continue to prove to be the pure definition of irony by even posting here.
Now, once again, take your sorry ass off these boards and stop wasting bandwidth over here, moron.
