Really, experts opinions and ratings generate "hype", so Parents, Friends and Relatives "pay" money for internet sites to read about their young rising star!" Bottomline, PAC10, BIG 12, ACC, SEC and BIG 10 will always be the HS Recruits "first choice." Why?
For years these high profile Schools/Teams have dominated the TV landscape. Then, enter CABLE TV! Now, the smaller or less known Schools/Teams can get TV time. So, most HS Recruits are under the illusion that if they go to a BCS School, more TV exposure and chance to be seen by Family, Friends, Relatives and possibly a Pro Scout.
With Cable TV, Conference Network Stations and etc.., exposure excuse is no longer valid. Any of the HS Recruits mentioned can get the same exposure in the MWC and/or at San Diego State that they would get at a BCS School. HS Recruits want to play and play as soon as they step on College Campus!
This may be one of the main reason(s) that they are so many de- commits, transfers and etc.. HS player has been told that he is a good player, and in reality, he is a terrible player! Next, these young players must accept the fact that major D1 College programs are not HS, AAU or Showcase Camps.
D1 College Coach has a program with structure, rules, roles and in most cases, Coach is under the gun to win! D1 College Coach has losing seasons on a consistent basis will be fired! So, let the HS recruits continue to believe that PAC10 is the best conf. and ect..
Sooner or later they will realize that its really about getting a free education, getting an opportunity to play and make long life friends. And if you happen to win a couple of Championships along the way, that's icing on the scholarship cake!

Common, of course there's always mistakes and over hyped players, but a kid who repeatedly plays well in a summer all star camp or aau event against his peers, should be rated higher than his peers. How do you suggest players accurately gain their ratings? And it's not about getting a parent to pay a $12.95 monthly due, but rather it's the parents of the underrated kids paying the $150 entry fee to get into the all star camp, to help gain exposure and more scholarship offers. However, just because the parents pay the fee to attend, doesn't mean their kid will play well or get a higher rating. Many times kids get exposed at these events and their ratings actually go down. And it's hard to argue that Cable has evened television exposure for SDSU similar to the BCS schools .. when this years BYU game will be the first time a MWC game has been aired on a national network ... and half of San Diego County still can't watch SDSU games, even with an extended cable package through Time Warner, but we'll see 50 games with BCS teams televised next year.

Another PG recruit mentioned today? Yet another PG Lester Medford from AZ showed up today (on ASR) as a player considering SDSU. He looks like he's one of the best PG's in AZ and held his own going up against Jahi Carson recently ... but are we really after him? Most likely we aren't, but a poster mentioned on here a few months back that they rarely heard SDSU mentioned by prospects at previous aau camps in the desert (vegas and az) and suddenly our name was everywhere. This is the 2nd AZ recruit for 2011 to go with a C from Oregon listed as considering SDSU. Considering almost all of our recruits are CA kids .. it's nice to see our recruiting pull reach out a little further. Hopefully we make a few fans next year on our Washington and Ohio trips too. www.azhoopsreport.com/f/FHF_Junior_Report.pdfrivals.yahoo.com/sandiegostate/basketball/recruiting/player-Lester-Medford-117109

Rumor that I don'thave proof backing up but, walk on spot offered to Wheelwright.
Side note I know the guy from Scout says Norman is the best prospect on the west coast, however I think Jabari Brown is better.
Oh and Wheelwright leaving and King entering is not a coincidence and that one is confirmed.

we have 4 seniors leaving maybe 5 ( 4 of the 5 are front court players) if we lose KL to the NBA that would be 5 out of 6 front court, plus Shelton knees. We have 1 guard transfer and 1 JC front court player , should we be concerned that we have only have 1 front court player on board with a lot of playing time to be offered to possible recruits .

Unfortunately, ratings and hype about HS basketball players is here to stay because of the Internet. Coaches and Scouts have easy access to players' information via the Internet.
And, in most cases, talent evaluators' alleged expert opinions are often mis-guided and based on a one-time performance. For example, player A has an impressive one-time performance in a game against top AAU team with rated players. Immediately, talent evaluators give player A a high ranking.
Hi profile College Coach offers player A a Scholarship. Player A accepts, sits on bench for two years at Hi profile College, then, transfers to Low profile College with hopes of playing!
The player mentioned in this post is looking for a College, any College to further his basketball playing career. Who knows, maybe San Diego State offered him a Scholarship before they offered other players, but this player gave San Diego the finger and chose USC because its a PAC10 School and etc..!
Interestingly, the player (Taylor King) who took this player's Scholarship was one the highest ranked players in his class and accepted a Scholarship at a HI profile school (Duke), sat on the bench, did not play up to his five star rating, and trans ferred to Villanova. Sat on Villanova's bench and then, just transferred to USC!
So, you tell me, do expert opinions and ratings determine who can or cannot play D1 College Basketball? Further, San Diego State recruiting focus should be small/power forwards and centers rather than guards. Guards are a dime a dozen, but it is hard to find decent small/power forwards and centers who can make an immediate contribution next season.
