Notice how the good teams have the better academic scores? Maybe smarts do play a role in athletic success after all. I'm not sure how that explains the SEC, however.

Good to see the Aztec APR moving in the right direction. Just one more positive about the program.

APR was much maligned when it came on line. Several years later, and after great grief and anguish for Aztecs, it would appear there has been substantial academic improvement at SDSU. There was a steep price to be paid for it competitively, but on the whole I am pleased by the University's response. It demonstrates that positive can come from negative and that turning one's attention to solving a problem instead of whining about it can work wonders. It's also interesting that the NCAA is attaching coaches names to the scores--even with the knowledge, as the article points out, that coaches scores are dependent on inherited players. By attaching names it does provide a limited gage as to what you are getting when you hire a coach who has been on the scene. Now, to just prove the correlation between good APR scores and winning. Prove it to everyone Coach Hoke, I believe. The Fred Noonan School of Navigation.

We were tantalized w/ the prospect of landing a 6-7, 300 lb O-lineman who didn't qualify academically at SMU. Maybe we're not pursuing him because of the APR issue.

interesting to look at the way the article was written. It could have started out on the front page stating how the SDSU programs have improved in the past couple of years instead of placing it near the end of the article. Wonder if your rating goes down if athletes leave school early to jump to the NFL or NBA and do not return to graduate how some schools from the East have a good rating. It is nice if they are tagging some coaches ie :the Basketball coach at Kentucky ,but do you think their fans care unless they lose mega scholarships

The LA times as well ran the story. Seems every outlet found it newsworthy.

The LA times as well ran the story. Seems every outlet found it newsworthy. Again, it is not that this material is NOT newsworthy, but rather that this kind of stuff is practically the ONLY thing the UT writes about. Check out the LA times and just look out how many articles are written about the actual Bruin and Trojan teams on a weekly bassis. It's not even comparable to the lack of reporting in the UT. Why do you all seem to miss this point? Stock in the UT? In fact, the only reason I found this board was because I was so starved for information regarding the Aztecs. Thankfully through this board I am able to get some good links to good articles about the Aztecs. However, the best articles are virtually never from the UT.

In TN Middle TN State has low test scores. By the time they get to pick players the big fast smart players are gone. You just can't compete from the bottom. Then everyone thinks the school is dumb if the players are dumb. Vanderbilt get the smart ones.
BYU and Air Force get the smart player in the Mountain. That is why they are so hard o beat.

Smart probably takes a back seat to old (BYwho) and disciplined (AFA). Hang in there, Matt
